Football Manager 2019 Wonderkids: Best Colombian players to sign


Colombia have not been a consistent powerhouse in world football like Brazil and Argentina, but the last few years have been something of a renaissance for them. In 2014 they had their deepest run in the World Cup, reaching the quarter-finals while James Rodriguez claimed the tournaments Golden Boot. Colombia has enjoyed something of a golden generation of players with Rodriguez, Radamel Falcao, Juan Cuadrado, and Carlos Bacca.

How to choose the best Colombian wonderkids in Football Manager 2019

This article will be looking at the best Colombian wonderkids in FM 19. These players are all teenagers when you start a new career with the Colombian league (January 2018) and are listed by the game as Colombian. They all have a potential ability of at least 110, making them useful parts of most squads, and some can become elite players after a few years of careful development.

Juan Hernandez (CA 120 - PA Range 150-180)

Age: 18

Position: AM (C), ST

Club: Huesca

Best Attributes: Penalty Taking (15), Finishing (14), Pace (14)

Value: £8.5 million

Wage: £17,250 a week

Juan Hernandez started his career with Deportivo Pereira, getting his first team debut in April 2015 at just 15 years old. He scored nearly a goal every other game before moving to Watford in July 2017 and was then loaned out to Huesca for more experience.

In FM 19 Hernandez is already a dangerous forward. He is good in front of goal (15 penalty taking, 14 finishing, 13 long shots) and has nice speed too (14 pace, 14 agility, 13 acceleration). Hernandez has a lot of good mental attributes to support his overall game (14 flair, 14 determination, 13 composure, 13 concentration) and is solid in the air too (12 heading).

Juan Jose Calero (CA 91 - PA 145)

Juan Jose Calero began his career with Pachuca, making his debut in 2015 before moving to Leon on loan this year. He has progressed up to the Colombia Under-17 side. 

In FM 19 Calero is a pacy forward (13 pace, 13 acceleration) who can create his own space (14 dribbling). Outside of this he doesn't have a lot of immediately good stats, but with a very strong potential ability and a low value, Calero represents a very nice development player for a lot of teams.

Jorge Carrascal (CA 120 - PA Range 130-160)

Best Attributes: Flair (17), Agility (16), Dribbling (15)

Value: £1.7 million

Wage: £2,800 a week

Jorge Carrascal got his senior debut with Millonarios in Colombia in 2014. He moved to Sevilla in 2016 but failed to make an impact with the first team and moved to Ukranian side Karpaty Lviv in 2017 on loan. He joined Karpaty Lviv permanently in 2018. 

In FM 19 Carrascal is already a very creative midfielder. He has excellent mental attributes (17 flair, 13 vision, 12 off the ball) and terrific talent on the ball (15 dribbling, 14 technique, 14 first touch). He has nice speed for a central player (16 agility, 13 acceleration, 12 pace).

Jhon Lucumi (CA 119 - PA Range 130-160)

Jhon Lucumi started his career with Deportivo Cali, getting his debut in 2015 and playing over 50 games before making a £2.7 million move to Belgian side KRC Genk. He has also progressed to the Colombia Under-17 side.

In Football Manager 2019 Lucumi is a very good defender already. He has terrific physical traits (15 pace, 14 strength, 14 jumping, 14 acceleration) and some nice mental attributes too (14 bravery, 13 concentration, 12 determination). He is solid defensively (12 marking, 12 tackling) and also good on the ball (14 passing) and in the air (14 heading).

Willer Ditta (CA 90 - PA 126)

Willer Ditta has been with Junior for his whole career, but spent two years out on loan with Barranquilla in Colombia.

In FM 19 Ditta is a physically impressive centre back (15 natural fitness, 14 agility, 13 pace, 13 strength) and has reasonable defensive stats already (11 marking, 11 tackling). He is good in the air (13 heading, 11 jumping) and has a handful of solid mental attributes too (12 anticipation, 12 positioning, 12 determination).

Luis Sinisterra (CA 110 - PA Range 120-150)

Luis Sinisterra started his career with Once Caldas, getting his debut in 2016. In July 2018 he made a €2 million move to Dutch side Feyenoord.

In FM 19 Sinisterra is a dangerous winger. He has decent speed (14 pace, 14 acceleration) and talent on the ball (14 dribbling, 14 first touch, 13 technique). He can deliver a deadly ball into the box (16 crossing) and can threaten goal too (12 finishing). Sinisterra is also good from dead ball situations (13 corners, 13 free kick taking).
