FM17: West Brom Player Ratings Revealed

Here's the West Brom team on Football Manager 2017 with all the player ratings and values revealed and broken down to help you understand your squad.

From an attacking point of view, West Brom are in good shape, with Nacer Chadli, Salomon Rondon and Saido Berahino all rated four stars and capable of doing a good enough job to lift you into midtable. It’s further back where the problems lie. West Brom have an aging core of midfielders that will need replacing and upgrading as soon as you can and a lacklustre defence that may concede goals against strong opposition. Ben Foster is pretty solid between the sticks, however, though he is into his thirties now.

In terms of sales, your aging deadwood won’t attract massive fees indivudally, but selling enough of them should get you a decent amount of money to sign a few young players to fill in the gaps. It’s hard to know whether to opt for quality over quantity, or vice-versa, but in West Brom’s case, i’d say quantity as selling two many players can leave you short of personnel and a few injuries could then wreck your season.

West Brom’s starting transfer and wage budgets are as follows:

Transfer budget: £9,700,000

Wage budget: £1,025,801

GoalkeeperBoaz Myhill2.52.533Wales£1.3m

I think a new goalkeeper should be a key target for you as West Brom manager. Both Ben Foster and Boaz Myhill are 33, but until you do sign a replacement, Foster will keep your goal safe in the meantime as he has a current ability rating of 3.5 stars.

DefenderCraig Dawson3326England£7.25m

You’ll need some new defenders at West Brom and I think this is where you should start your transfer business. It’s important to build your team from the back. Jonny Evans is your best defender (3.5 stars) and it’s worth keeping him in the team, but Gareth McCauley, your other centre-back, is 36 and only 2.5 stars. Craig Dawson could do a decent job for the time being at 3 stars, though you should invest in a centre-back, immediately. At fullback, Allan Nyom and Jonas Olsson should be decent enough to start with; they’re both three stars.

MidfielderNacer Chadli4426Belgium£22m
MidfielderJames Morrison3.53.530Scotland£8.25m

In midfield, new signing Nacer Chadli is your key man. He’s rated four stars and you should look to play him centrally so he can affect the game as much as possible with his dribbling, passing and long-range shooting. Elsewhere, your best players are Chris Brunt (3 stars), James Morrison (3 stars) and Darren Fletcher (3.5) stars, though all are age 30 or over. They’ll have you covered for a season, but this should be your next transfer priority. If you’re short of funds, look to sell Robson-Kanu, Gardner and McClean.

StrikerSaido Berahino44.522England£19m
StrikerSalomon Rondon4426Venezuela£22m

It’s beyond me why Saido Berahino has a four star current ability and the potential to reach 4.5 stars considering he’s played minimal football in the past two seasons. However, Sports Interactive rate him highly and you can take advantage of that. Salomon Rondon is also rated four stars and playing both together may be effective. Be mindful that you only have two recognised strikers; you can’t play both together each week without them tiring eventually.
