FM17: Crystal Palace Squad Player Ratings Breakdown

Here's the Crystal Palace team on Football Manager 2017 with all the player ratings and values revealed and broken down to help you understand your squad.

A lowly transfer budget doesn’t give you much freedom so you’ll have to finance your own deals if you want to make any. Defence will be your key concern as Palace are quite short of decent defenders. Christian Benteke is your key man in the squad and he will lead your line in attack. Just a word, though, that the big Belgian is only effective when you play the right tactics as he’s primarily a target man. So if you want to keep him, make sure you build your team around him. For example, signing pacey wingers with good crossing attributes.

Cyrstal Palace’s starting transfer and wage budgets are as follows:

Transfer budget: £10,675,000

Wage budget: £1,413,390

PositionPlayerCurrent RatingPotential RatingAgeNationalityValue
GoalkeeperWayne Hennessey3329Wales£6.5m
GoalkeeperSteve Mandanda4431France£14m

No need for goalkeeping changes as Mandanda, at 31, won’t begin declining for some years yet.

DefenderDamien Delaney3334Ireland£625k
DefenderScott Dann4429England£12.75m
DefenderPape Souare3.53.526Senegal£12m

It’s worth noting that Palace are a little short of defenders and some cover should be signed. You do, however, start with a top centre back in Scott Dann. Note that none of your defenders are likely to improve in the future and if you want to push for a top six spot, sign some young players that can improve as the game progresses.

MidfielderJordan Mutch33.524England£8.75m
MidfielderWilfried Zaha33.523England£12.25m
MidfielderKwesi Appiah2225Ghana£1.2m

Make sure you play Cabaye from the start as he has a four star current rating, though at 30, he’s not a long-term option. Focus on developing Zaha, Townsend and Mutch as they can all improve in the future. If you’re short of funds, sell Appiah and Lee Chong Yong as Palace have enough midfielders and they’re the lowest quality. Jason Puncheon could also be added to the transfer list whilst you can still get a fee for him.

StrikerConnor Wickham3.53.523England£10.5m
StrikerLoic Remy3.53.529France£19.75m
StrikerFrazier Campbell2.52.528England£4.8m
StrikerChristian Benteke4425Belgium£30m

In Benteke, you have a four star striker, though his goal scoring will very much depend on your tactics. He’s purely a target man and he won’t suit a possession-based game. If you want the best out of him play direct, if not, sell him and reinvest the money. It’s worth mentioning that Loic Remy is only at Palace on loan, so hold off on selling Frazier Campbell until you’ve signed a suitable replacement.
