FIFA 19: Roma Player Ratings

Roma had a very strong season last year, finishing third in Serie A and reaching the semi-finals in the Champions League. During that run to Europe’s last four, the Giallorossi picked up a memorable victory over Barcelona, coming back from 4-1 down after the first leg to win on away goals and knock the Spanish champions out.

That was last season however, and despite their progressive campaign, they looked to have taken a step back over the summer. World class pairing Alisson and Radja Nainggolan have moved on, with manager Eusebio Di Francesco looking to increase the size of his squad. Quality has still arrived however, with the 19-year-old Justin Kluivert one to keep an eye on in the years ahead.

So how will this squad shape up on FIFA 19? RealSport’s here to take you through the new player ratings for the Roma side.

Team Rating

According to FIFA 19, Roma’s perfect balance between attack, midfield and defence gives them receive a four-and-a-half star rating, something the Romans may feel unjust given they reached the Champions League last four. All three areas of the pitch earn an 81 rating.

Robin Olsen (OVR 75)

Age: 28Positions: GKCountry: Sweden

Losing a world class goalkeeper like Alisson was going to be tough to replace, and it looks as if Eusebio Di Francesco has answered the problem by bringing in two useful goalkeepers to challenge each other. Robin Olsen has arrived from Copenhagen after shining in the World Cup Sweden, and although he looks to be the first choice, fellow arrival Antonio Mirante (OVR 80) is the higher rated on FIFA 19.

Alessandro Florenzi (OVR 82)

Age: 27Positions: RB, RW, CMCountry: Italy

A versatile player, but still one of the best right backs in the world, Alessandro Florenzi is a serious asset to this Roma side. The 27-year-old chalked up an impressive 42 appearances last season, but only managed the four assists. If he can just find star striker Edin Dzeko with balls in from the right, that number should increase.

Kostas Manolas (OVR 85)

Age: 27Positions: CBCountry: Greece

Roma’s joint-highest rated player, but many are still unaware of Kostas Manolas’ ability. The Greek international has amassed over 170 games for Roma, with his pace and strength making him well-equipped to deal with all kinds of attackers.

Federico Fazio (OVR 82)

Age: 31Positions: CBCountry: Argentina

Partnering Manolas is the more experienced Federico Fazio, the Argentine faced plenty of criticism at Tottenham during his 12 months in North London, but his performances at Sevilla and now Roma should earn him the respect of the fans. His work for Roma last season was rewarded with a trip to the World Cup finals with Argentina.

Aleksandar Kolarov (OVR 82)

Age: 32Positions: LB, CBCountry: Serbia

At the age of 32, Aleksandar Kolarov shows no signs of letting up. The Serb still possesses one of the most dangerous left foots in the game whether it be from the left flank or hovering over set-pieces. With some aerial threats in this Roma side, having Kolarov’s delivery is a serious asset.

Daniele De Rossi (OVR 83)

Age: 35Positions: CDMCountry: Italy

An experienced cookie, Daniele De Rossi may not be the destroyer he once was, but the 35-year-old is still a formidable opponent. The Roma captain has represented his club close to 600 times, along with over 115 caps for his country. Expect this to be his last season competing at the highest level, but his experience will be invaluable for helping the squad develop.

Javier Pastore (OVR 82)

Age: 29Positions: CM, LW, RWCountry: Argentina

One of the new signings, Javier Pastore will look to provide the creativity that Roma lacked in times last season. A classic number ten, Pastore is great on the ball and has the vision to play a pass. In a season of limited appearances at PSG, Pastore still notched five goals and six assists, and Di Francesco will see him as the midfielder to take the goal-scoring burden off Edin Dzeko this season.

Kevin Strootman (OVR 83)

Age: 28Positions: CM, CDMCountry: Holland

Kevin Strootman used to be that man bursting forward to make things happen, but with injuries taking their toll, the Dutchman now operates from deep. Strootman may not have the legs he had a few years ago, but his is another man with an eye for a pass, and offers a left-foot option in midfield.

Cengiz Under (OVR 77)

+ 11

Age: 21Positions: RW, LWCountry: Turkey

Cengiz Under showed his quality last season with seven Serie A goals, and expect that number to rise as he gets more opportunities this season. Under won’t be the only talented young winger in the squad, with Justin Kluivert another wide man who chip in with the goals.

Edin Dzeko (OVR 85)

+ 11

Age: 32Positions: STCountry: Bosnia Herzegovina

The main-man in the team, Edin Dzeko is one of the best goal scorers in world football. The Bosnian rose to fame at Wolfsburg, where he fired them to the Bundesliga title in 2009 by scoring 36 goals in all competitions. Over five seasons at Manchester City he lifted the Premier League title twice, scoring 72 goals, and he has already beaten that figure with Roma within three campaigns.

Stephan El Shaarawy (OVR 81)

+ 11

Age: 25Positions: LW, RWCountry: Italy

It’s hard to believe Stephan El Shaarawy is still only 25, meaning the Italian has time to get his career back to the top. His three seasons at Roma have enabled to do that, scoring 30 goals, but we want to see the man who smashed in 19 from the wing at AC Milan back in 2012/13.
