How to choose the best wonderkid for FIFA 18 Career Mode

Here we are looking at the best wonderkids from Germany on FIFA 18. This includes players aged 23 and below who have starting overall ratings of 74 and higher, and the potential to hit at least 83. They are players who are impressive now, but can go on to become some of the best in the world.

Players can outgrow their potentials on Career Mode, but they must be playing incredible well game in, game out. These young, high potential players do come at an expensive price, but if they are to be in your starting 11 for six, seven or eight years, it is certainly worth it. In pulling together our top 10, we have looked at player stats, potential and age.

Our full list of German wonderkids can be found at the bottom of this page.

Julian Draxler (OVR 84 – POT 87)

Age: 23

Positions: LW, CAM, LM, CM

Club: Paris Saint-Germain

Work rate: Medium/Low

Best attributes: 88 dribbling, 87 ball control, 86 shot power

Cost: £66.9 million (release clause)

Wage: £106,000 a week

Currently behind Neymar (OVR 92), Kylian Mbappe (OVR 83) and Angel Di Maria (OVR 84) in the pecking order out wide at Paris Saint-Germain, an exit from the French giants looks likely for the 23-year-old Julian Draxler. In 17 appearances this season the German international has scored two goals and assisted a further five, which should be enough to tempt the big clubs in Europe, with a move to Arsenal a possibility.

88 dribbling, 87 ball control and 86 shot power contribute to Draxler’s 84 overall rating, which can rise to an 87 potential. You are looking at a fee of £66.9 million for the left winger or midfielder, with his wages at £106,000 a week.

Leroy Sane (OVR 83 – POT 91)

Age: 21

Positions: LW, RM, LM

Club: Manchester City

Work rate: High/Medium

Best attributes: 94 sprint speed, 93 acceleration, 87 dribbling

Cost: £69.5 million (release clause)

Wage: £110,000 a week

He’s tearing up defences in the Premier League, Leroy Sane has eight goals and eight assists for Manchester City this season. The left winger or wide midfielder has secured a place in Pep Guardiola’s side this year, which is no mean feat considering the likes of Raheem Sterling (OVR 83), Bernardo Silva (OVR 84) and Gabriel Jesus (OVR 82) are all competing for places.

You are looking at a price of £69.5 million to secure the 21-year-old, who has an 83 rating on FIFA 18. With a potential of 91, his 94 sprint speed, 93 acceleration and 87 dribbling still have room to improve, and you may have to increase his £110,000 a week wages to secure the talented German.

Niklas Sule (OVR 83 – POT 89)

Age: 21

Positions: CB

Club: Bayern Munich

Work rate: Medium/Medium

Best attributes: 94 strength, 86 standing tackle, 85 heading accuracy

Cost: £49.7 million (release clause)

Wage: £69,000 a week

Mats Hummels (OVR 88) and Jerome Boateng (OVR 88) didn’t have to fear for their place in the Bayern Munich side last season, but with Niklas Sule arriving from Hoffenheim arriving last summer, the centre backs may just start to look over their shoulders. The 21-year-old made his debut for the national team in 2016, during a season in which he helped Hoffenheim finish fourth in the table.

With Sule only having just joined champions Bayern, you will need to wait until January to snap him up. His £49.7 million release clause is more than double the £22 million that FCB acquired him for during the summer, with the six foot five defender’s wages setting you back £69,000 a week. Attributes of 94 strength, 86 standing tackle and 85 heading accuracy help make up his 83 overall rating, which can rise to an incredible 89.

Joshua Kimmich (OVR 83 – POT 88)

Age: 22

Positions: RB, CM, CB, CDM

Club: Bayern Munich

Work rate: High/Medium

Best attributes: 88 crossing, 85 stamina, 85 short passing

Cost: £44 million

Wage: £77,000 a week

It’s been a rapid rise for the versatile Joshua Kimmich, who has softened the blow of the retirement of German legend Phillip Lahm at Bayern Munich. Like Lahm, Kimmich can play at right back and in midfield, and the 22-year-old’s technical ability has seen him become a regular for both Bayern and Germany in just his second season in the Bundesliga.

You are looking at a reasonable price of £44 million for Kimmich, which will get you his 83 overall and 88 potential. The former RB Leipzig man has attributes of 88 crossing, 85 stamina and 85 short passing, with wages of £77,000 a week.

Leon Goretzka (OVR 83 – POT 88)

Age: 22

Positions: CM, CAM, CDM

Club: Schalke

Work rate: High/High

Best attributes: 86 stamina, 85 sprint speed, 85 acceleration

Cost: £53.1 million (release clause)

Wage: £40,000 a week

With six goals and 12 games for the German national side, central midfielder Leon Goretzka is determined to not let the shirt go. The 22-year-old Schalke man was part of the side that won the Confederations Cup last summer, and if he continues his form, you wouldn’t be surprised if he was the next man to join giants Bayern Munich or head elsewhere in Europe

Goretzka’s 83 overall rating consists of 86 stamina, 85 sprint speed and 85 acceleration, which can all rise as he closes in on an 88 potential. You are looking at a price of £53.1 million for the box-to-box player, with wages of £40,000 a week.

Timo Werner (OVR 83 – POT 87)

Age: 21

Positions: ST

Club: RB Leipzig

Work rate: High/Medium

Best attributes: 93 acceleration, 92 sprint speed, 87 finishing

Cost: £53.9 million (release clause)

Wage: £60,000 a week

A future move could also be on the cards for RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner who has bagged 32 goals in less than a season and a half for the East German side. His record earned him a first German call-up earlier this year, and with seven goals in ten games for Die Mannschaft, he is now their first choice striker.

With 93 acceleration, 92 sprint speed and 87 finishing, the 21-year-old Werner is an absolute weapon up front. His 83 overall can grow to an outstanding 87, which would match the current level of PSG marksman Edinson Cavani. You can claim Werner by matching his £53.9 million release clause and offering wages upwards of £60,000 a week.

Jonathan Tah (OVR 82 – POT 88)

Age: 21

Positions: CB

Club: Bayer Leverkusen

Work rate: Medium/Medium

Best attributes: 91 strength, 86 standing tackle, 82 marking

Cost: £43.5 million (release clause)

Wage: £41,000 a week

One of the best defensive talents in world football, you get the impression that Bayer Leverkusen centre back Jonathan Tah is set for a successful career. With he and Niklas Sule more than capable understudies to Mats Hummels and Jerome Boateng, the German national side may just have the best defensive options in the word.

The 21-year-old Tah holds attributes of 91 strength, 86 standing tackle and 82 marking, giving him an overall of 82. His potential of 88 can be yours for a price of £43.5 million with wages of £41,000 a week.

Julian Brandt (OVR 81 – POT 88)

Age: 21

Positions: LM, RM, CAM

Club: Bayer Leverkusen

Work rate: Medium/Medium

Best attributes: 87 dribbling, 84 ball control, 83 sprint speed

Cost: £41.8 million (release clause)

Wage: £43,000 a week

Another Leverkusen man, wide or attacking midfielder Julian Brandt has already chalked up over 130 appearances for his club, and with so much experience on his young shoulders, you can see why he has been given opportunities for the national side. His 11 assists last season made him one of few shining lights for Die Werkself, and at this rate a move to a bigger club looks likely.

That could be your side on Career Mode, with the 21-year-old available for £41.8 million. Given his 87 dribbling, 84 ball control and 83 sprint speed that’s a fairly good deal, even more so when you consider his 81 overall will rise to 88 over the next seven seasons. His wages are currently £43,000 a week.

Julian Weigl (OVR 81 – POT 87)

Age: 21

Positions: CDM, CM

Club: Borussia Dortmund

Work rate: Medium/Medium

Best attributes: 89 short passing, 86 interceptions, 84 reactions

Cost: £35.1 million (release clause)

Wage: £41,000 a week

Only recently returning from a fractured ankle, Julian Weigl must now work hard to get back to the level he was at last season. The defensive or central midfielder pulls the strings quite nicely at Signal Iduna Park, offering great balance to the Borussia Dortmund side.

The 21-year-old has an 81 overall rating on FIFA 18, which can rise to an 87 potential on Career Mode. 89 short passing, 86 interceptions and 84 reactions are tidy attributes which will cost you £35.1 million to get hold of, with wages of £41,000 a week.

Emre Can (OVR 80 – POT 85)

Age: 23

Positions: CM, CDM

Club: Liverpool

Work rate: High/High

Best attributes: 85 stamina, 84 strength, 83 aggression

Cost: £25 million

Wage: £92,000 a week

It looks to be a watershed season for Liverpool central midfielder Emre Can, with the German international out of contract at the end of the season. A move to Juventus looks to be on the cards of the 23-year-old, and Jurgen Klopp will be disappointed with his management of the player who he has worked so hard to nurture, but has only seen flashes of brilliance of.

The former Bayer Leverkusen man has an 80 overall rating on the game, made of stats of 85 stamina, 84 strength, and 83 aggression. With Can’s contract expiring you may only need £25 million to get hold of, with wages of £92,000 a week getting you his 85 potential.
