FIFA 17: FUT Draft Guide

What is the FUT Draft? RealSport gives you a quick quide on the Ultimate Team game mode.

Many new FIFA players will have no idea what the Ultimate Team Draft is on FIFA 17, but it is one of the most fun and exciting modes on the game. In this mode, you draft players to each position, having a choice of five players for every place in the squad. It gives the chance to play with the top quality players you may not be able to afford in your regular squad, and combine players from different countries.

The Draft lasts for just four matches, with more prizes available after each victory. But if you lose in the first round, you are knocked out and leave almost empty handed. It costs 15,000 coins or 300 FIFA points to enter, but if you win just one or two matches you will have earned your money back. For the rewards, you receive packs, which improve with every victory. The Draft is available both online and single player mode, but with more rewards being available online.

Picking the right formation

When entering the Draft mode, you will be asked to pick your formation before you get the chance to draft any of your players. Make sure you select a system you are comfortable with, and we’d suggest sticking with four at the back and make sure you have two wide players.

Drafting

It is important to maintain a strong chemistry throughout in order to get the most out of your players, so be sure to pick players of the same nationality or division, not just the best talent. It can be tempting when an in form Leonardo Bonucci pops up when you are building a Premier League team, but you are better off sticking with Phil Jagielka.

Using your squad

If you drew Gareth Bale in your reserves when you’ve got a German team, you can still use the Real Madrid star. Bringing on substitutes will not affect the team chemistry, so make sure you bring him on in the second half. If during the draft you are happy with your first eleven, use your remaining picks to look for stars to come off the bench. Stamina does not decrease on the Draft, so you don’t need to waste your picks on bringing in extra centre-halves.

Gameplay

As is the nature of the draft, you could come across a squad that is far superior to yours. But, you can use that to your advantage by hitting them on the counter attack. Change your team mentality to ‘defensive’ or even ‘ultra defensive’ by using the direction pad. Then push the up arrow, and select ‘counter-attack’, this makes your players push forward when they win the ball, and hopefully catch your opponent on the break.
