Finding an affordable player to run your midfield can be challenging on FIFA 17’s Career Mode, especially if you are a club who has financial restrictions. You must make a decision whether to go for an experienced player on the decline or a younger player who can go on and become a first team regular. Here at RealSport, we have found the best midfielders who won’t break the bank account, and are more than capable of doing a job for your side.

Marko Rog (OVR 75 – POT 85)
One of the biggest coups on FIFA 17 has to be Napoli man Marko Rog. The 20-year-old attacking or central midfielder will only set you back around £6 million, with the potential to become one of the world’s best. The Croatian international moved to Napoli in the summer, but is yet to make an appearance for the club, and has only signed a one-year contract. This means you will have to wait until January to sign him, but at that price, he will be worth the wait. The former Dinamo Zagreb man has 82 short passing, 80 dribbling and 78 ball control, which comes at a cost of £25,000 per week wages.
Pablo Galdames (OVR 72 – POT 85)
Union Espanola man Pablo Galdames can be picked up for just £4.5million, an absolute steal for a 19-year old with a high potential. The central, defensive or right midfielder has 86 stamina, 85 interceptions, and 82 agility, giving him some superb core tools to go on and become a top player. The Chilean has already chalked up over 40 appearances for his club, and will only set you back £14,000 wages.
Chang Hoon Kwon (OVR 73 – POT 84)
It’s about time South Korea had some talent coming through, and Suwon Bluewings central or defensive midfielder Chang Hoon Kwon looks to be the next Asian star. The 22-year-old has chalked up over 75 appearances for his club and made his debut for the national side last year. Eight caps and three goals later, he is a regular in the side, and it may not be long before a European side comes knocking. He has 81 balance, 81 stamina and 77 dribbling, for a price of £6.5 million and £7,000 wages.
Andres Cubas (OVR 73 – POT 84)
20-year-old Boca Juniors defensive midfielder Andres Cubas comes in at a price of £6.5 million, and he is another player who is likely to move to Europe in the coming years. The Argentine has 91 agility, 88 balance and 79 standing tackles in the game, which will begin to improve straight away. Be sure to give him plenty of training so that he reaches his potential as quickly as possible, and to make the most of his £18,000 wages.
Jorrit Hendrix (OVR 76 – OVR 83)
Making his Netherlands international debut this past summer, Jorrit Hendrix is a name to watch out for over the next few years. The 21-year-old defensive and central midfielder or centre back will only cost £7 million and £11,000 in wages. He has played over 100 times for club side PSV Eindhoven, and with only one year remaining on his contract, it will be interesting to see what happens at the end of the season. He will offer 84 long passing, 82 stamina and 79 interceptions, making him definitely one to consider in your first transfer window.
Matheus Pereira (OVR 70 – POT 85)
An unknown quantity in the form of Empoli attacking midfielder Matheus Pereira, with just one season at Corinthians before moving to Serie A in the summer. Similarly to Marko Rog, you won’t be able to sign him until January, but he will only cost £4 million and £720 weekly wages. The Brazilian has 83-rated agility, 81 acceleration, 78 dribbling as well as the ‘flair’ trait – making him a very tricky number 10.
Kaka (OVR 82 – POT 82)
At the age of 34, former Ballon d’Or winner Kaka could have one more move left in him, and you’d do well to find a better big name player to bring in on Career Mode. The former AC Milan and Real Madrid man has 86 volleys, 86 vision and 85 composure along with the ‘finesse shot’ trait. The Orlando City attacking midfielder or centre forward can be brought in for less than £5 million, with £22,000 wages.
Yann M’Vila (OVR 79 – POT 82)
Poor old Yann M’Vila. The 26-year-old Frenchman tried to force through a move to Sunderland on transfer deadline day in the summer, but ultimately he had to stay at Russian side Rubin Kazan. The defensive or central midfielder is still expected to move to The Black Cats in January, but you can snap him up for just over £5 million in career mode. His £58,000 wages may turn you off, however, but with time still to grow and 83 aggression, 82 short passing and 81 interceptions, there are few better holding midfield options.
Fernandinho (OVR 81 – POT 81)
It’s strange to see a regular starter for Manchester City not be offered a new deal, so you can imagine a big name coming into the City side next season. Fernandinho has been a great servant at The Etihad and has been among their top performers this season. The Brazilian offers 86 aggression, 86 interceptions and 83 shot power, at a price of just £8 million. His wages of £43,000 are a fair price for the 31-year-old’s ability.
Michael Carrick (OVR 81 – POT 81)
Despite some impressive form, it is clear Michael Carrick is not in Jose Mourinho’s plans, and it looks more than likely that the Manchester United defensive or central midfielder will leave Old Trafford at the end of the season. You could choose to snap the 34-year-old up for as little as £2.5 million and £36,000 wages, an absolute bargain, for which you would receive 86 short passing, 85 vision and 85 composure.
