Just a week ago, it was announced that Digital Chaos would be parting with its TI6 runner up roster to partner with Team Onyx. The former Digital Chaos players will be playing under the name of “Thunderbirds”. Even though they changed organisations this late into the season, fans need not worry as that doesn’t hamper their chances of winning the Kiev Major seeing as the roster remains in tact.
During the pre-TI6 shuffle, Digital Chaos was left with no stable roster and was on the brink of dissolution. That was when w33, who had been kicked off of Team Secret along with his teammate MiSeRy, formed a new team called Avengers which was immediately picked up by Digital Chaos. The duo were later joined by Resolut1on, Saksa and Moo. Going into TI6 as the underdogs, they surprised a lot of people with an unpredictable draft and pulled a string of extraordinary plays against Evil Geniuses in the semifinals which propelled them into the grand finals. The post TI6 shuffle saw Moo leave the team and MoonMeander join them, further strengthening their squad. This team became a force to be reckoned with as they finished in a strong 3-4th place at the Boston Major and won the ESL One Genting 2017.
But 2017 wasn’t so kind to them as they were eliminated in the group stages of the StarLadder i-League StarSeries Season 3 and failed to qualify for the Dota 2 Asian Championships. Thunderbirds might be a little unstable at times but that doesn’t mean that they are to be underestimated. Earlier this week, they announced their departure from Digital Chaos and started playing under the banner Thunderbirds, their new independent organisation.
It is a well known fact that MiSeRy, their captain, is a master of drafting. With a huge hero pool at his expense and an unpredictable draft which helped them secure second place at the TI6, Thunderbirds could stomp any team in their way. This being said, it should also be noted that Thunderbirds have been in the game for almost a year now and must be wary of other teams as there is a chance for them to be completely predictable and outdrafted. Nonetheless, Thunderbirds have the potential to finish top 4 yet again.

Even though most of the community attribute w33 for Thunderbirds’ success, there is one other player who has stood out distinctly. Resolut1on, who has been touted as the next big thing in CIS Dota, has proved that he is in fact a beast in the carry position. Whether he plays on Naga Siren or Slark, he has the ability to turn games around and give fans their money’s worth. Resolut1on also has the ability to open up space for w33 and MoonMeander giving them a chance for a more flexible strategy in the later stages of the game.
What do you think Thunderbirds chances of winning the 2017 Kiev Major are?
