(CS:GO) Virtus.Pro wins DreamHack Zowie Open

Virtus.Pro was able to fend off several challenger to take home $50,000.

After dominating group play, Virtus.Pro defeated North American powerhouse Cloud 9 2-0 in the grand finals of the Dreamhack Bucharest Open to claim $50,000.

The day one action started off with group play and it definitely did not disappoint. Virtus.Pro and Cloud 9 were able to win their respective groups, but the true highlight was the Danish squad Heroic taking on the French Envyus. In a two hour showdown on Mirage, Heroic took Envyus to six overtimes in a 34-31 victory.

On day two four teams (Gambit, FlipSid3, Heroic, and FaZe Clan) were eliminated to set the stage for the semi-finals. A notable rematch was between Heroic and Envyus where the Baguettes came out on top in a 2-1 victory over Heroic. Day two set the table for two prize fights: Cloud 9 vs Envyus and Virtus.Pro vs Dignitas.

Virtus.Pro faced a stiff fight from Dignitas after the Danish squad tied up the series at 1-1 sending it to a third map on Overpass. Unfortunately for Dignitas, Virtus.Pro was able to advance to the Grand finals after a close 16:13 Overpass.

The heavyweight match between Envyus and Cloud 9 was an interesting one. Cloud 9 was able to win Cache one of Envy’s better maps while Envy was able to win Mirage which is a map that Cloud 9 absolutely dominates on. Thanks to a stellar performance from Envyus player DEVIL, the Baguettes forced a game three on Dust2, but their run had come to a close.

In the grand finals it was not very competitive. Virtus.Pro would win 2-0 with two 16-9 performances on Train and Cobblestone to secure the $50,000. I would give the MVP of Dreamhack to VP NEO after a 1v5 Ace against Team Dignitas which helped secure their passage to the grand finals.
