6 Teams To Try On FM 16

The only thing we can be certain of is that everyone who plays Football Manager is different. Some enjoy managing a team with vast riches, a healthy transfer budget, and a host of already talented players to work with. Others prefer to grow a smaller club from the ground up, leading the said team from obscurity into the promised land. Then you have your academy-specialists, who like developing a team around a strong batch of youngsters, which again, is perfectly fine. Whichever FM gamer you are, we have you covered. We've gone through FM16 and compiled a fitting list of 6 hugely interesting teams for you to try out at some stage or another when playing Football Manager 16.

Dortmund

Your task here is simple - dethrone Bayern Munich. It's not the most impossible thing in the world, but then again, Bayern are pretty insane, especially after the Bavaria recruited so well over summer. Dortmund do have a talented squad, but it pales in comparison to what Bayern have. Dortmund also only have £10m to spend and find themselves in the Europa League this year. Will that £10m be enough to get where you where you need to go?

West Ham

West Ham don't have a transfer budget but do have one hell of a squad, a Europa League campaign to take part in, and one of the league's better cores. The core of Adrian, Winston Reid, Mark Noble and Andy Carroll/Diafra Sakho and Enner Valencia is enough to at the very least, aim to qualify for the Europa League in your first season. If you throw in the rest of the squad, which by the way, is one of the best West Ham's squads we've seen for a long while, and the small matter of the move to the Olympic Stadium next year, you're left with one of the most exciting teams to manage in the entire game.

Wigan

Two short years ago, Wigan were lifting the FA Cup trophy and were facing the prospect of a Europa League campaign. However since then, they now find themselves in League 1, in need of a huge rebuild, and that's where you come in. No player who started the 2013 FA Cup Final win over Man City remains at Wigan, but with a transfer budget of £3m, that should be more than enough to finance a rebuild and to kick-start your journey of taking Wigan back to the Premier League, and beyond.

Carpi

Carpi are such a small side, their stadium doesn't meet Serie A regulations, so they play in the stadium of rivals Modena, and it's their first season ever in the Serie A. Their players are decent, but you will need to find a way to make a few savvy additions with limited money if you're to avoid the drop. With a modest budget of just over £1m and a wage budget of around 3k, will you be able to make every penny count, and avoid the drop?

Atletico Madrid

You have two challenges here. First, there is the challenge of shaking off the likes of Valencia, Sevilla and Villareal; all close by rivals but rivals which your fans will expect you to do better than. There's also the small matter of taking down the giants that are Barcelona and Real Madrid. Picking Atletico arguably lands you in one of the toughest title fights you could face in FM16 from the word go, as you're not quite as big as the likes of Real and Barca, but you're too big for your fans to expect anything less than a title challenge. That not challenging enough for you? Well, once you find domestic glory, let's see if you can turn Atletico into a European powerhouse, and do what they couldn't in 2013; win the Champions League.

Southampton

The sixth and final spot would've gone to Ajax, but the Eredivisie is so weak that their brilliant youth system can't excuse the lack of competitiveness you'll experience. Enter Southampton. You start off the campaign in the Europa League, a decent transfer budget (£10m) which comes on top of all their other summer signings, and one of the best academies in the game. From more finished products like James Ward-Prowse to the likes of Jake Hesketh and Matt Targett, you can build a great team around their academy, while also having a bit of money spend. The question is, how far can you take this team?
