Daily Fantasy Baseball Picks: Lineup advice for September 20, 2017
Another big day as baseball winds down, so which players should you pick in DFS?
It’s another day of fantasy baseball as the regular season continues to wind down and this week has been completely unpredictable. Here’s hoping Wednesday and the great players taking the field today bring some stability, but who should you pick?
Best DFS MLB Pitchers for September 20, 2017
An obvious choice for today would be Boston Red Sox ace Chris Sale, but he has not been himself lately and the Baltimore Orioles have given Boston trouble this week. Fortunately, there are other talented arms that could make up for Sale’s streaky September (1-1, 3.94 ERA, 1.56 WHIP)
Luis Severino vs Minnesota Twins: $12,000 DraftKings, FPPG- 22.9
Severino has been borderline unstoppable as of late. On top of being 13-6 with a 2.93 ERA, he is 2-0 with a 1.29 ERA this month and will be looking to complete a sweep against the Minnesota Twins. This will be the first time that Minnesota will be seeing Severino this year and the team has not yet been able to solve the Yankees this week.
Simply put, with Sale proving unpredictable, give Severino a chance.
Brad Peacock vs Chicago White Sox: $9,800 DraftKings, FPPG- 14.1
It’s taken longer than anticipated but Brad Peacock is finally a viable starter. The righty has gone 11-2 with a 2.98 ERA in Houston this year and has a cushy matchup tonight against the Chicago White Sox.
Peacock took a no-decision in facing the White Sox on the road last month, but he only allowed one run over six innings. The results should be a lot more satisfying now that he has home field advantage.
Luke Weaver @ Cincinnati Reds: $9,400 DraftKings, FPPG- 16.4
I cannot find enough good things to say about Luke Weaver, the scrappy St. Louis right-hander who has taken his team by storm. The 24-year-old is 6-1 with a 1.89 ERA in seven starts and is 3-0 with a 0.96 ERA this month.
Even better is that Weaver is facing the last-place Cincinnati Reds tonight. Starting him in the hitter-friendly Great American Ballpark is indeed a risk, but his groundball rate of 55.7% should protect him. Either way, the man is red hot and should be drafted.
Best DFS MLB Hitters for September 20, 2017
Now that we’ve covered pitching, what about the hitters?
Andrew Benintendi @ Baltimore Orioles: $5,100 DraftKings, FPPG- 8.5
Andrew Benintendi is the type of hitter that you never quite know what he’ll do at the plate. Will he have a contact day or a power day?
Today, I’m banking on Benintendi possibly having a mixture of the two against the Orioles. Baltimore has given Boston trouble this week, but Wade Miley is on the mound for the Orioles today and he lasted just a third of an inning his last time out. His leading MLB in walks combined with Benintendi batting .307 in his last three games should make for a prime matchup regardless of output.
Edwin Encarnacion @ LA Angels: $5,000 DraftKings, FPPG- 8.7
Encarnacion is batting just .254 on the year, but still has 36 home runs and 96 RBI. He has a cake matchup against Ricky Nolasco (6-14, 5.11 ERA) and could be primed for a big day at the plate.
Even if he doesn’t go long today, count on him to at least get a couple of base hits.
Rhys Hoskins vs LA Dodgers: $4,400 DraftKings, FPPG- 12.2
Hoskins is simply unstoppable. He plated four runs against the Dodgers last night and his Philadelphia Phillies are in a position to take at least three games out of four from the NL West leaders.
Going up against the struggling Alex Wood, who has gone 1-2 with a 4.76 ERA this month, Hoskins could be primed for another big game.
Best stack option
Not to keep piling on Baltimore but…
Boston Red Sox @ Wade Miley
Miley only got one out in his last start and gave up six earned runs against the New York Yankees, and a Boston Red Sox team with a chip on its shoulder won’t be much more merciful. Guys like the aforementioned Benintendi ($5,100), Mookie Betts ($5,500), and Jackie Bradley Jr. ($3,700) are all prime candidates for today.
