Daily Fantasy Baseball Picks: Lineup advice for August 7, 2017
With only seven games tonight we comb through the rosters for some gems that can win big in DFS today.
A travel day means a light slate of games tonight, with just seven on the docket. Still, that doesn’t mean you should stay away from playing DFS. We cover all the bases and look at the best players to get into your lineup today.
Best DFS MLB Pitchers for August 7, 2017
There are just 14 names to pick from, with doubts over whether Max Scherzer will make his start for the Nationals. So who are we recommending today?
Jake Arrieta @ San Francisco Giants: $11,600 DraftKings, FPPG – 14.7
14.7 points per game may not sound like a good return. A 3.88 ERA doesn’t sound like a good investment at $11,600 either. However, after a shaky start to the season, Jake Arrieta is finally looking like his old self.
He’s knocked almost a run off his ERA since the start of July, and in his last four starts has a 2.05 ERA with an opposing slash of .154/.220/.297. He’s got 22 strikeouts in 26.1 innings and has allowed just seven walks. Last time out he put up a 26.2 point game against the Diamondbacks, and if that doesn’t tell you Arrieta is a safe bet against the Giants then I’m not sure what will.
Carlos Martinez @ Kansas City Royals: $8,200 DraftKings, FPPG – 18.9
Martinez is posting 9.7 K/9 so far this season, and that alone should be enough to convince you to play him. However, despite a 3.59 ERA, his last few starts have been shaky. Colorado slapped him around the field, before struggling in his next start in Milwaukee. His ERA has jumped 44 points since the start of July. The Royals averaged 5.4 runs a game in July, but August has been less kind, dropping that number to 4.3. Their offense has always been streaky, and it might be just the tonic Martinez needs.
Jhoulys Chacin @ Cincinnati Reds: $8,100 DraftKings, FPPG – 13.6
Chacin is having one of his better seasons, posting a 3.99 ERA and his lowest walk rate since 2013. However, taking any San Diego player is always a risk. Chacin’s last few starts have been promising though, with a 2.02 ERA since the start of July and a 5-0 record in six starts with a 1.09 WHIP. He is relatively cheap, and the Reds have been anything but good this season, but his own run support is very insecure.
Best DFS MLB Hitters for August 7, 2017
There are a lot of big names not playing today, however, there are several good bats still playing. Who should you look to get into your lineup today?
Andrew McCutchen vs Detroit Tigers: $4,700 DraftKings, FPPG – 9.2
McCutchen started slowly but has been electric in the last few weeks. With five homers since the break, 18 RBI, and a season slash line of .292/.386/.522, he has been a shining light in the Pirates middling season.
Giancarlo Stanton @ Washington Nationals: $4,200 DraftKings, FPPG – 10.1
If Max Scherzer gets scratched from tonight’s game then this price, along with Marcell Ozuna ($3,600) and Christian Yelich ($3,500), is a steal. The MLB-leader in home runs (36) has a .278/.371/.608 slash line and 79 RBI. He has been a monster in the second half and at just $4,200 is worth a look even if Scherzer pitches.
Adam Jones @ Los Angeles Angels: $3,800 DraftKings, FPPG – 7.6
Baltimore’s offense exploded against the Tigers last night, with Jones going 2-for-5 with a pair of runs scored. A 20 home run hitter, Jones is facing JC Ramirez, whose 4.61 FIP and 1.32 WHIP undercut a 4.03 ERA. Start him with confidence today.
Best stack options
With so few games today, is there any lineup you can stack?
Washington Nationals vs Chris O’Grady (MIA)
The Marlins’ rookie is posting a 5.40 ERA and 1.60 WHIP in five starts this year. His last outing was against these Nationals who knocked him around for six earned runs in three innings of work. While Bryce Harper ($5,600) is expensive, the likes of Anthony Rendon ($4,500), How Kendrick ($4,300), and Brian Goodwin ($3,800) can be stacked with good results today.
