It's been a long time since The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was originally released. It's even been a while since it came out on Nintendo Switch, in 2019. CDPR has promised to bring Geralt to a new generation of gamers, releasing The Witcher 3 on PS5 and Xbox Series X, but we still don't know when.
Thankfully, the wait might be over sooner than you think.
WitcherCon Needs To Give Us Something
CDPR and Netlfix have teamed up to bring WitcherCon to fans of the IP in the next couple of days and this means we could finally hear something more about The Witcher 3 on PS5 and Xbox Series X. We're not expecting a release date yet, but some sort of update on development would be exactly what CDPR needs to offer fans to keep their faith in the upgrade.
The Witcher 3's next-gen release keeps being mentioned, but there's very little to suggest anything more about it. We know very little at the moment.
WitcherCon is due to take place over July 9th and July 10th and is set to focus on both CDPR's Witcher games and Netflix's Witcher series. It's being primarily pitched as a "celebration of The Witcher", but there's going to be a few sneak peeks included.
H2 2021 Is All We Have So Far? Ugh
On the September 4, 2020, CD Projekt RED announced that The Witcher 3 would be coming to Next-Gen!
Since then, we haven't been given an exact release date, but a recent tweet from Daniel Ahmad about CDPR's most recent stats release suggested that The Witcher 3's next-generation port will be released in the second half of 2021.
Everything seems on schedule regarding the Witcher 3 next-gen editions!
At the moment, The Witcher 3 doesn't have an exact release date for PS5 and Series X. It is on schedule to be released in 2021, but we'll update you as soon as a final release date is confirmed.
Changes & Improvements
Below is a quote from the developers about what fans can expect from the PS5 and Xbox Series X versions of The Witcher 3.
"Developed to take advantage of the most powerful gaming hardware, the next-gen edition of the game will feature a range of visual and technical improvements — including ray tracing and faster loading times — across the base game, both expansions, and all extra content.
The next-generation edition of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will release as a standalone purchase for PC, Xbox Series X, and PlayStation 5, as well as a free update for everyone who already owns the game on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4." - CD Projekt RED
