Now that we know College Football is on its way back to the gaming world, fans are looking forward to a potential NCCA Football 23.

Here's everything we know so far about NCAA Football 23 and the future of this storied college football gaming franchise.

Will there be an NCAA Football 23?

Here's where things get a bit confusing, because there will not technically be an NCAA Football 23 despite news the franchise is returning.

This is because, as far as we know so far, EA has yet to strike a deal with the NCAA to use their branding again on the games, and that deal may not happen at all.

However, there could be an EA Sports College Football 23, but only if they choose to change the naming conventions of the past.

For decades, sports games have named games after the next coming year and not the year they're actually being released in, potentially because most regular seasons don't end until the next year.

MLB The Show is the primary example of a series that doesn't use off-year numbering, but this could be because the start and end of a given season all take place within the same year, and the title itself launches much earlier in the year.

As of now, EA has yet to break free of that naming style, so even a game released in 2023 would likely be named EA Sports College Football 24.

When will EA Sports College Football come out?

We've gotten very little confirmation from EA Sports themselves aside from acknowledging this is indeed a gaming series they are reviving.

Most of the details about the game have come through Matt Brown of Extra Points, as he's submitted open record requests for details about the communication between EA and NCAA schools.

Back in early 2021, Brown broke news that EA's targeted release date according to their contract was July of 2023.

Over a year later, he acquired additional records including a letter that stated "game development is in full swing, and the launch goal remains summer of 2023."

At this point, EA appear to be communicating with schools to get details on crowd chants, band songs, cheers, and other assets for game presentation at each stadium.

While things could always change over the next year, as of now EA appears to be on schedule to release EA Sports College Football 24 in July of 2023.
