Total War Warhammer 3 has been confirmed by Creative Assembly and will arrive in 2021.
After Chaosbane and the Vermitide series, Warhammer fans have been hungry to jump back into the strategic gameplay Total War offers.
Thankfully, Creative Assembly was listening and have announced that Total War Warhammer 3 is on the way!
Total War games are some of the best out there, known for their mid-scale, deeply-strategic tactical RTS gameplay and often-unique focus.
Here's everything we know about the third game in the Total War Warhammer series...
Total War Warhammer 3 Announcement Trailer
It's finally here! Promising a "cataclysmic conclusion", Creative Assembly has shared a First Look Announcement Trailer for their upcoming release: Total War Warhammer 3.
Below, you can check out the mysterious trailer below and get an insight into what's in store:
As you can see in the Tweet above, Total War Warhammer 3 takes us back into the tumultuous Realms of Chaos for an exciting battle that will stretch into your worst nightmares!
At the end of the Total War Warhammer 3 trailer above, we are told that Warhammer 3 is coming in 2021.
However, that's it. It is a little vague, but a promising announcement nonetheless.
It is rare for a Total War game to launch late into the year, with the majority of releases coming between May and August.
This ballpark could be accurate, however, the pressures of the global pandemic might push Creative Assembly into an unusually late release window.
We will update this page when a more-accurate prediction and/or official release date is announced.
As a Total War title, and a sequel to Total War Warhammer 2, it's safe to assume what the gameplay of this game will be like.
Total War games are mid-scale RTS titles that have players command a variety of units on an "Army" scale.
Creative Assembly often throws a wide array of units into its' games and Total War Warhammer 3 appears to be no different.
With the appearance of the Demons of Chaos and Khorne's Army, expect to see a range of units that vary in both power and size. Daemons are big, alright?
As it stands, there's seemingly full confirmation that Kislev is getting thrust more into the spotlight in Total War Warhammer 3.
Despite not being a major faction, Kislev has become a fan-favourite amongst players and their mention is a welcome addition to the upcoming game.
Kislev is also the most northerly human civilisation in the Old World, often seen as a strong ally of The Empire.
The Demons of Chaos also feature heavily in this trailer and they are one of only two core races to not currently be a playable faction in the Total War Warhammer series.
It appears that this could be about to change... However, previous statements have suggested that Total War Warhammer 3 might still only have four factions at launch.
Alternatively, much like the Warhammer Tabletop game, the Demons of Chaos could be folded into the Warriors, Beastmen, or even the Norsca factions. Only time will tell.
Later into the trailer we also see a few snippets of what appears to be the Khorne Army. Khorne is a daemon and his army is made up of... Well, daemons.
Khorne's forces could be made up of Skullcrushers, Bloodletters, and Bloodthirsters. They're all extremely awesome-looking daemons that feature heavily in the tabletop game.
The Total War Warhammer series already features daemons of similar power so the inclusion of these devastating units isn't outside the realms of possibility.
Right before the end of the trailer, we get a glimpse of a map and... GRAND CATHAY!
That's right, at long last, it appears as if Cathay is making an appearance in Total War Warhammer 3.
It has existed in Warhammer lore for some time, but without much representation, it opens up the floor for Creative Assembly to... Get creative.
That's pretty much everything we can learn from Creative Assembly's Total War Warhammer 3 announcement trailer.
We haven't seen any mention or appearance from any Orc Factions in the trailer, but we can't rule out an appearance just yet.
Furthermore, while we have seen Grand Cathay on a map... No. Let's not even go there. Cathay is coming.
SEGA has promised that "players will wage war with the most diverse array of legendary heroes, gargantuan monsters, flying creatures and magical powers that the series has ever seen." Are you ready for Total War Warhammer 3 later this year?
Creative Assembly's Total War team have also set up an Official Total War discord server dedicated to fans of the series.
