Subnautica Below Zero Release Date

Subnautica Below Zero has been out and about in Early Access on Steam for almost a year now, but the title is finally coming out fully on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on May 14th.

That's only two days away AND the same day as Mass Effect Legendary Edition? How are we even meant to pick?

What's interesting is that Below Zero was originally released as a DLC content expansion for Subnautica. However, Unknown Worlds Entertainment saw such a positive response that they opted to continue developing this new chapter in Subnautica's story as an independent release.

From what we know, it's got much more of a focus on storytelling and the narrative behind the survival than Subnautica. This could be the first step in a long series of exciting games.

New Cinematic Trailer Revealed

What is Subnautica Below Zero even about anyway? Good question! Here's the latest description from Subnautica Below Zero's Steam page:

" Dive into a freezing underwater adventure on an alien planet. Below Zero is set two years after the original Subnautica. Return to Planet 4546B to uncover the truth behind a deadly cover-up. Survive by building habitats, crafting tools, & diving deeper into the world of Subnautica."

The next instalment in the Subnautica series is going to follow the story established by Subnautica and plunge you into a world full of dangers to figure out what's going on beneath the surface. You can check out the newest Cinematic Trailer that showcases a few of these new details below:

Gameplay Information Detailed

Subnautica Below Zero is going to play a lot like the first title, so if you're a series veteran then you should be alright jumping into the new game.

If not... Subnautica Below Zero is a first-person POV survival title that requires a lot of "meter management" and crafting to get through. There's also a new temperature gauge that needs to be managed and a wide array of unusual creatures that may, or may not, be friendly. It has everything a survival game could need with a strange nautical twist.
