New Ryzen 5000 Acer Chromebook Spin 514 announced

Acer are one of the very biggest computer manufacturers in the world and this huge base of users leads to constant innovation. With Next at Acer just around the corner, they're preparing for a big year of updates. Here's what we've just found out about the next generation of Chromebook.

Ryzen 5000 Acer Chromebook Spin 514

The Spin 514 is getting a brand new model with a surprisingly powerful processor. The Ryzen 5000 C-Series Processor is based on Zen 3 architecture and comes with integrated graphics, giving it a little more power to play around with. In a surprise move, this 8-Core CPU is one of the strongest available for portable PCs hinting at the future of the brand.

Marketed as a productivity laptop, the extra graphical performance could lead to a much better time when using photo and video editing applications and should give the availability to even run some games. This being said, we won't know how effectively it does this all until we actually get our hands on it.

We don't have a specific release date yet but we know it is due to launch at some point in Q3 starting at:

  • $579.99 in North America
  • €749 in Europe
  • £699 in the UK

We'll update you right here if anything changes in between now and the launch.

What could this mean for the future?

Chromebooks are getting more expensive and more powerful. This marks an attempt at a much higher performance Chromebook for a more expensive market. Taking its light design and easy to use UI and injecting it with much more impressive specs - they seem to be planning to take up a wider portion of the market.

With a great 14-inch Full HD multi-touch IPS Display and a vibrant range of colours, they are looking to provide a much more premium experience at a premium price point. Only time will tell if this works out for them.
