Multiversus: How to Play as Velma

When looking at the vast array of possible Warner Bros-owned characters and IPs to cross over into their Smash Bros-style fighting game Multiversus, Scooby-Doo's Velma Dinkley might not be at the top or even on anyone's list.

The character best known for their brains and not their brawn, the mild-mannered Velma seems like a very out-of-place choice to be playable in your fighting game but developers Player First Games picked her anyway and ended up creating what is actually one of the most unique, inventive and interesting characters in a modern brawler. Here's how you play her.

Despite being a free character during the closed alpha, Velma is now locked at the beginning of the game, needing to be purchased for 2,000 in-game Gold or 700 Gleamium, giving you the choice of unlocking her quickly with premium currency or earning it through play.

The genius of Velma's implementation in Multiversus is that she is a fighting game character who doesn't really spend much time fighting enemies. Being a part of the support class of characters, Velma is best suited to avoiding conflict almost entirely, working as a way to buff her allies and debuff opponents.

The best way to play Velma is to continuously boost your ally while playing to her passive ability. Much like in the Scooby-Doo cartoon, Velma's passive ability is all about solving mysteries. By collecting the various clues that will appear at random, Velma can slowly crack the case and call the police. When she does, a police car will spawn and chase down the nearest opponent, revealing them as Old Man Jenkins and stunning them for her partner to deal massive damage.

Velma's Move-Set

As is the case for all characters in Multiversus, their move-sets consist of ground and air attacks as well as special attacks and a passive ability unique to them. Unlike most of the other characters, however, Velma doesn't have many moves that can physically damage an opponent but she does have a series of debuffs/buffs at her disposal and moves to better generate clues or even heal herself slightly.

Below you can find the full move list for Velma. Please note that these are keyboard controls and should be substituted for your controller's button of choice for attack and special respectively.
