MLB The Show 23 Release Date

Sony San Diego has shown consistency in recent years, and for well over a decade, this long-running baseball simulation franchise has launched a new title in March or April as the MLB season approaches.

New Storylines Mode Announced

A brand-new Storylines mode is coming to MLB The Show 23 - and will be rolled out in future titles - celebrating the stars of the Negro Leagues!

Season One will accompany MLB The Show 23, with Season Two being released with MLB The Show 24, and so on.

In partnership with the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, the mode will highlight some of the iconic players of the era and their stories of triumph over adversity.

Focussing on a particular player, the mode will take users on "an entertaining narrative journey through short informational videos, followed by gameplay reflecting important moments in that player’s career".

The Season One roster of players includes Leroy “Satchel” Paige, Jackie Robinson, Andrew “Rube” Foster, Hilton Smith, Hank Thompson, John Donaldson, Martin Dihigo, and John Jordan “Buck” O’Neil.

A deep dive into the Storylines mode took place on Thursday, 9 February, with Negro Leagues Baseball Museum President Bob Kendrick as a special guest to give some more insight into the players being introduced!

Changes to Road to the Show

Some exciting changes are coming to the Road to the Show game mode. Developers worked hard to improve the ball player hub interface, making it easier for players to navigate it. On-field training is also back, allowing players to find out which areas of their game need to be improved.

The biggest change was the addition of the face scan feature. It will help players become more immersed in the game, and improve the overall game experience. This way, users can feel like they are actually playing in the MLB.

Pre Order, Price & Platforms

The actual launch of MLB The Show 23 is just a few days away and the build toward that release is progressing nicely!

Pre-Orders went live on Monday, 6 February, with the prices as follows:

  • Standard Edition Last-Gen - $59.99

MLB The Show 22 continued the expansion started with MLB The Show 21 by taking the game to Nintendo Switch for the first time and Xbox for only the second year.

This year will see the title released over all the same platforms, with the main version coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox X|S, with the last-gen platforms of PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch not gaining all the features of the current-gen.

Cover Athletes Revealed

Making a surprise appearance as the cover athlete for the standard edition of MLB The Show 23 is Miami Marlins' second baseman-turned-center fielder Jazz Chisholm!

The Bahamas-born star will bring his flair, electric personality and love of all things baseball to the title.

Collector's Editions are also being released, with the man himself appearing on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon to reveal the news.

Legend of the game Derek Jeter will grace the Digital Deluxe Edition and The Captain Edition, with it also announced that they will be released on Friday, 24 March.

Game Modes

We've seen a push to improve overall quality in the last few years, and most of that has come with the refinement of existing game modes.

Road to the Show got a major overhaul with MLB The Show 21, and MLB The Show 22 followed up with a big set of new features from March to October.

For many, the hope is that Franchise Mode is next, which has reportedly been working on Legacy Mode and may be in the process of being rebuilt from the ground up.

Of course, the big new addition will be the Storylines feature, so we are not sure if Sony San Diego will have put loads of work into other modes.

The main game modes in MLB The Show 23 will be:
