The War For Wakanda has officially started; Here's the latest on the new update

Crystal Dynamics' Marvel's Avengers is getting its biggest post-launch update yet and we can't wait to dive back into the unique take on Earth's Mightiest Heroes on offer later today. It's safe to say that there have been quite a few issues with Marvel's Avengers over the last few months, but there's a lot of changes being made and the War For Wakanda expansion is just the latest in a long line of solid updates from the development team. Here's everything we know...

UPDATE - Important Update Information

The War For Wakanda update is finally here and it comes in at the following download sizes:

• 31.8GB on Xbox Series X
• 17GB on PlayStation 5
• 32GB on PC

We have no word on how big the download is on current-gen consoles but we expect it to be more in line with the PS5's 17GB than the Series X's 31.8GB.

In addition to all the Wakanda-based content, there's also going to be a UI update across the board. This should, with any luck, make it easier to find things and streamline the menu process in-game. All of the character tabs are going to be on the same page and... "It will allow you to gear up and get back into the game faster than before."

What time should we see the update arrive?

Crystal Dynamics hasn't shared anything too specific about the War For Wakanda expansion update release time, but that doesn't mean we can't make an educated guess.

Looking at previous updates and expansions, we believe the War For Wakanda expansion update could be released at the following times:

• 08:00 - PST
• 11:00 - EST
• 16:00 - BST

This is, of course, subject to change, but we can imagine Crystal Dynamics will share a release schedule later today - August 16th - via Marvel's Avengers' social media pages to help people prepare for the update.

War for Wakanda expansion drops this week!

The War for Wakanda expansion was initially announced in March 2021 before being hyped once again during E3 2021. It was during E3 that the push really began on War for Wakanda as we got a deep dive into the content and the official release date which is Tuesday, 17 August.

The expansion brings with it the third new playable character, Black Panther, who brings much more hype and anticipation than the previously released Hawkeye and Hawkeye II.

How much will War for Wakanda cost?

In a very pro-consumer move, Marvel's Avengers War for Wakanda expansion is entirely free to play. There is no cost involved other than owning the base game.

Despite the live service nature of Marvel's Avengers, due to the current struggles to bring in and retain new players, it would probably be difficult to justify charging for an expansion anyway.

There are more than a few other games that could likely learn from this content delivery strategy but that's a conversation for another time! It is, however, risky making additional content for a major game free to play is risky as creating the content isn't free and there's no guaranteed return on the investment.

Here's hoping that War for Wakana lives up to expectations so we still get the much-discussed Spider-Man DLC before the end of 2021!
