We have to be honest: after learning that 1907 Fenerbahçe couldn’t get a visa for their jungler, we didn’t have high hopes for them. But the team rallied together to upset Hong Kong Attitude, a lineup that was considered a favorite coming into the group stage. What’s even more surprising is that Fenerbahçe don’t solely play around their Korean imports, and the Turkish players have blown everyone away with some amazing League of Legends. This team is definitely more dangerous than we expected.
While Team oNe Esportsqualified for the knockout stage, it was by the skin of their teeth. The Brazilian up-and-comers looked lost on their first day, and they barely pulled through with two back-to-back victories against Dire Wolves. Still, was it the case of them playing well, or just Dire Wolves being even worse? After all, every game Team oNe played against Cloud9 turned into a one-sided slaughter.
Top Lane matchup
If someone told us before the Play-In stage that Thaldrin would be one of the most impressive Fenerbahçe players, we’d have laughed at the notion. Yet here we are. With a 4.6 KDA and 8.1 CS per minute, the Turkish top laner played his heart out on the frontlines, constantly being in the right place at the right time to break open teamfights for his squad.
Meanwhile, Team oNe’s Vert went through a lot of picks in his games so far, but didn’t really stand out on any of them. Sporting a 1.8 KDA and 7.8 CS per minute, he couldn’t quite stand up to a juggernaut of Impact’s caliber, though he did fare well enough against Chippys. Even so, we doubt he’ll find many openings against his next opponent.
Verdict: FB Thaldrin conquers the top lane.
It’s unfortunate that Move couldn’t make it to the tournament, but Crash is doing well in his place. With a 4.8 KDA and 5 CS per minute, he’s been key in finding ganks, and tearing through teamfights for Fenerbahçe. More importantly, his clutch Baron smites are the main reason his team made it this far.
4LaN performs a similar role on Team oNe, but he couldn’t quite make the same miracles happen. With a 1.8 KDA and 3.8 CS per minute, he came to the Play-In stage with several off-meta picks, but he rarely—if ever—performed on them. With that in mind, overcoming Crash will be a tall order.
Verdict: FB Crash takes over the jungle.
Mid Lane matchup
Fenerbahçe’s mid laner—Frozen—entered the Play-In stage as the ace of his team. And even though it took some time for him to live up to the hype, he proved his worth with spectacular play on Syndra and Ekko. Sporting a 4.1 KDA and 9.1 CS per minute, Frozen poses a constant challenge to his enemies.
On Team oNe’s side, they have a duo of Brucer and Marf in the mid lane. With a 0.4 KDA and 7.8 CS per minute, Brucer proved to be underwhelming—especially when facing a player of Jensen’s caliber. And even though Marf performed better with a 3.5 KDA and 7.4 CS per minute of his own, the mid lane remains a glaring weakness for Team oNe.
Verdict: FB Frozen puts on a clinic in the mid lane.
Bot Lane matchup
The bot lane will be an interesting one. Holding a 6.0 KDA and 9.8 CS per minute, Padden showed up as one of the most dominant members of 1907 Fenerbahçe, and his support—Japone—was even more impressive with his wide range of playmakers and a 7.6 KDA of his own. That being said, their laning does have some holes, and they often entered mid game with CS deficits.
Meanwhile, Team oNe’s duo also did well for itself. Absolut’s 2.7 KDA and 8.7 CS per minute might not be that impressive, but his play on hypercarries was on point, and although RedBert (2.5 KDA) doesn’t have as many playmakers in his champion pool, his selection of defensive supports is ideal for countering Japone's style. We’d still give the edge to the Turkish duo, but it’s not a big one.
Verdict: FB’s Padden and Japone squeeze out a bot lane victory.
1907 Fenerbahçe aren’t a perfect team. Their early game might be messy, and their mid game teamfights can get a bit hectic, but at their core, they’re a very strong lineup that knows what to do at every stage of the game. And considering how shaky Team oNe’s been looking, we’re not sure they can do anything to turn the tables. Our prediction: a 3-0 victory for 1907 Fenerbahçe!
