Final Fantasy XVI Release Date: Will we find out during today's State of Play?

The next entry into Square Enix's Final Fantasy series is on the way and fans are eager to find out more about Valisthea and the Blight. The only issue we have at the moment is that we don't know when it's coming out - we don't have a solid release date for Final Fantasy XVI at the moment. Thankfully, that might change soon... Here's what you need to know...

Final Fantasy XVI Shown at State of Play - Gets a New Release Window.

The ending of State of Play came a massive surprise in a brand new trailer for Final Fantasy XVI but it's good news and bad news I'm afraid. While the trailer was very impressive and gave us an in-depth look at the game and what we can expect, the title has also been officially delayed until the vague release window of "Summer 2023" a delay from its initial 2022 date.

Final Fantasy XVI Release Date - What we know...

At the moment, we don't have a release date for Final Fantasy XVI at all. It was revealed in September 2020 and we've had sporadic updates since then.

We do know the basic premise of the game though. Final Fantasy XVI is set on Valisthea, a world on the precipice of war as six factions duke it out in the shadows of a spreading malady - the Blight.

Clive Rosfield is reportedly the leading protagonist and there's going to be an expansive cast of new characters spread throughout the six factions at each other's throats: the Grandy Duchy of Rosaria, the Holy Empire of Sanbreque, the Kingdom of Waloed, the Dhalmekian Republic, the Iron Kingdom, and the Crystalline Dominion.

When could we find out something more specific?

PlayStation's upcoming State of Play presentation could be the perfect place for Square Enix to announce a full release date for Final Fantasy XVI. We usually find out about Final Fantasy games through PlayStation events and this upcoming entry into the series is reportedly going to be a timed console exclusive for PlayStation 5.

With this in mind, we're pretty confident in suggesting that a PlayStation State of Play is going to be when we find out the release date for Final Fantasy XVI - why not this one?

The next State of Play presentation is due to start at the following times:

• 17:00 October 27th EST
• 22:00 October 27th BST
