Mediatonic Purchased by Epic Games

This massive move was announced on Tuesday, March 2nd via a blog post from Mediatonic. This blog post has clearly caught quite a buzz, as it's already causing 504 errors from the massive traffic rush to read up on the move!

In the post, Mediatonic gives their rationale behind the decision - "Joining forces with Epic will accelerate our plans to improve the game and bring Fall Guys to as many players as possible, while continuing to support the community."

What's Next?

Mediatonic joins the Epic Games family as Fall Guys continues to develop into new season 3 content, taking on new themes, game modes, skins and more.

SNOW WORRIES: Fall Guys Season 3 brings some new action

We expect the future of Fall Guys will be bright backed by Epic Games, and that this will certainly not be the last we hear of Mediatonic, who are surely primed to push the next massive gaming phenomenon after continuing to push Fall Guys to the next level.

Is Free to Play Coming?

Those that know Epic Games know Free to Play is a core tenet of the company's philosophy, whether in game development with Fortnite, or as a game streaming service with new free games each month.

FREE TO PLAY?: Fall Guys may soon become free to play under Epic Games

This could hint at Fall Guys eventually becoming free to play. As it stands, the game already has microtransactions that could fuel a free to play model, but only time will tell.

One hint given in the Mediatonic purchase announcement is a bit of the FAQ section, which states - "Free-To-Play? Nothing to announce right now!"

By including this high in the FAQ, we expect it is leading to a future announcement where Fall Guys may finally become a free to play game.

And with the game soon to come on Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and more, the playerbase may explode more than its incredible first wave!
