Which Buildings to Upgrade first in Clash of Clans

Once you've upgraded your Town Hall, you'll be faced with a world of possibilities of what to upgrade. Here's what we recommend:

1 - Heroes

Heroes are by far the most valuable upgrade, as they will give you both offensive and defensive power. When you begin to reach the higher Town Halls in Clash of Clans, heroes will often be the centrepiece of your attack, and underlevelled ones will feel lacklustre.

If you're not in a clan war, try and upgrade more than one at once to be extra efficient. It can take nearly 300 days just to reach a level 60 King or Queen, so there's no time to waste!

2 - Laboratory, Spell Factory, Barracks

The Laboratory is a key upgrade, as upgrading it early will give you a much-needed headstart on troop upgrades. This will allow you to begin levelling your troops to their max for your Town Hall, while working on your defenses.

The Spell factories have fewer levels, but having access to all the spells can often be more important than accessing all the troops. Key barrack levels to attain are also the Electro Dragon, and Yeti.

3 - Clan Castle, Army Camps

The Clan Castle is a key building to upgrade because it gives you extra capacity for an attack, and can take higher-level troops. Especially once you unlock siege machines, this can make a huge difference.

Army Camps are just as vital, as you'll usually unlock an extra 20 housing space per Clash of Clans Town Hall level. This can be vital in an attack, as an extra dragon is nothing to sniff at.

4 - Town Hall Weapon (12 and above)

If you're at least Town Hall 12, you'll next want to upgrade your Giga Tesla, or Giga Inferno. These weapons, particularly the infernos, are the best way to defend against a two-star attack and will drive your enemies mad.

This will also upgrade the bomb or poison that drops with the Town Hall, which can stop an attack in its tracks and prevent a three-star. They're also surprisingly cheap considering the damage they can do.

5 - Eagle Artillery (and Scattershots)

Although at Clash of Clans Town Hall 10 and above, single-target defenses tend to be stronger, these two defenses are in another league. They may be slow firing, which makes them easy not to notice, but they can tear through the front or back line of an attack with ease.

These will be some of the priciest upgrades, but it's well worth your gold. There are no defenses that can wipe out a miner squad with quite the same effectiveness.

Best Troops to Upgrade first

Which troops to upgrade first in Clash of Clans varies wildly depending on what you like at attack with. Here's our recommendations to unlock as many attack types as you can. If you don't have the troop yet, skip a step.

1 - Electro Dragon

The e-drag is one of the easiest troops to use in the game, and one of the most powerful. Upgrading this to max is often enough to wipe out a base with a Town Hall of the same level as yours.

2 - Healers

A trickier attack, but one of the most powerful in the Clash of Clans, is the Queen Charge, and for that, you'll need some good healers. At any Town Hall, this is one of the best ways to begin an attack, and pave the way for the rest of your army.

3 - Balloons

A key part of any air attack, Balloons are incredibly versatile, and deal massive damage to defenses. Pair them with a Lava Hound for controlled destruction, or send them in after e-drags for a fast-paced demolition.

4 - Pekkas

Another versatile troop in Clash of Clans you can just place and leave, Pekkas are great at level one, but at the higher levels are like a Hero you can take several of. Pair these with Golems and rely on their damage, or let them tank for a miner army.

5 - Goblins

A controversial entry for the list, goblins are a terrible troop, that is until you unlock their super variant at level 7. With these, you'll be able to snipe town halls and storages with ease, and they are the best farming troop in the game.
