Where to Find Glow Squid in Minecraft and What They Do

Minecraft got a huge update earlier this year with Caves & Cliffs. This saw new blocks, structures and, most importantly, all-new mobs, join the game.

Now, months later, we're preparing for an even bigger update with even more changes. Here's what you should know about the Minecraft Glow Squid.

Latest - Minecraft 1.18 out soon

After months of teases and small updates, Minecraft 1.18 is here next Tuesday on November 30th.

This will change up the game in some valuable ways.

What has changed?

The generation of caves, ores and mountains has changed. In line with this, you may expect to see the glow squid in some pretty odd spaces.

Where to Find the Glow Squid in Minecraft

The Glow Squid is a variant of the standard squid that glows in the dark, explaining its name. It's harder to find but much easier to see than the standard squid.

The Glow Squid can be found deep in water below sea level or in water sources in caves. The deeper you go, the more likely you are to find them.

You might want some good enchantments to make it as far down as possible for the easiest time. Luckily, you can see them from some distance with the way they look.

Why Should You Kill Them? / What Do They Drop?

Killing Glow Squids is quite easy as they have very little health and don't move all that fast. If you've killed a squid, you can handle this. If you're really looking for a challenge, try taking on the Warden.

The Glow Squid drops Glow Ink Sacs which can be used to apply glowing text to current signs. You can then revert it back with normal ink sacs.

The most interesting thing you can do with these sacs is make a Glow Item Frame. This is just like a normal frame but allows it to glow in a room, a fantastic way of presenting all your items. Although the sacs are mostly cosmetic, they add some great ways to customize your place.
