The next-gen consoles are almost here and we can't wait!
The PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X will both be released next week. We've been wondering which games will have backward compatibility and now we're finally getting some answers.
Rockstar has revealed which games from their catalogue will be able to be played on PS5 and Series X and there are some absolute classics on offer! We've got the full list right here!
Rocking it on next-gen
Let's start with the two we already knew about, Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption 2. GTA V was announced in September to be making its way to next-gen after the release of the next-gen consoles.
RDR2 will also be available on PS5 and Series X, meaning both Red Dead and GTA Online will be on next-gen. Also available is L.A. Noire, which will playable on next-gen, including its VR Case Files.
For Xbox Series X, there are also the following 360 games which are compatible with the new console:
- Bully: Scholarship Edition
- GTA IV
- GTA IV: Episodes from Liberty City
- GTA: San Andreas
- Midnight Club: LA
- Red Dead Redemption
- Table Tennis
Amazingly, there are also PS2 that will carry all the way to PS5. These are as follows:
- GTA III
- GTA: Vice City
- GTA: San Andreas
- Max Payne
- Red Dead Revolver
- The Warriors
What about my save files?
It's very simple, especially if you have downloadable copies of these games. On either the PS or Xbox Stores, you will find these Rockstar games ready to download and they will work on your next-gen console.
If you have a disc copy of these games, they will also work as long as you see them on this list. The only exception is the digital PS5 and the Series S, which don't have disc drives, so bear that in mind before upgrading.
If you're wondering about your save files, they can be transferred across generations using USB or the cloud. This is as long as you stay with either PlayStation or Xbox.
Just like when GTA Online went from PS3 and 360 to current-gen, your progress will be carried over. This also applies to Red Dead Online, you just need to make use of the Social Club.
What about GTA VI?
We're still waiting.
There's still nothing officially out there from Rockstar regarding their next game after Red Dead Redemption 2. You'd expect there to be a new GTA in the pipeline, but when it will arrive is anybody's guess.
There were rumours of Rockstar's next project being Bully getting a sequel, but that has seemingly been shelves. With how secretive Rockstar are about their games in development though, a reveal could be around the corner!
