GTA 6 is one of the most highly anticipated games of all time, following in the footsteps of GTA V, which has gone on to sell over 145 million copies, backed up by the hugely successful GTA Online mode.
The game regularly trends on Twitter and it hasn't been announced yet.
GTA V Expanded & Enhanced
The next-gen port will feature improved visuals, resolution, and new features too.
What This Means For The GTA 6 Reveal
This news as good as confirms that it is very unlikely we will see the announcement of GTA 6 in 2021.
While fans are eagerly awaiting the official announcement of GTA 6, if they know the new game is coming then there would be less incentive to purchase GTA V on next-gen consoles and just stick with the version they currently play.
It is also unlikely that we will see the announcement after the release of GTA V later in 2021 as the game is released in November, which doesn't leave a lot of time for the announcement to be made, and could affect the holiday sales that the game will want to have.
This means that we won't likely see the reveal of GTA 6 until at least 2022.
When Will GTA 6 Be Released?
Until the official reveal of the game, we can't know for certain when it will be released.
But, looking at other Rockstar Games reveals in recent years we can get a good idea.
GTA V was first revealed on November 2, 2011, meaning the next-gen port will be released almost a decade later to the day.
The game ended up releasing two years later on September 17, 2013.
Jumping forward a few years and Red Dead Redemption 2 was officially announced on October 20, 2016, with a release date of October 26, 2018 - once again a two year gap between the games.
It was initially rumoured that GTA 6 would be revealed at some point between September and November 2021 with a release date following two years later, almost mirroring the timeline of GTA V a decade earlier.
So, it will likely be 2022 before we see the reveal of GTA 6, meaning the game could be released sometime around 2024.
