In April 2021, GTA V has made its return to Xbox Game Pass, letting a bunch of new subscribers jump into the game.
If they've played on other platforms or have friends they'd like to play with who are on other platforms, they'll likely be wondering whether GTA V and GTA Online have crossplay or cross-platform play.
Below, we've got everything you need to know.
Does GTA Online Have Crossplay?
In short, no, GTA Online and GTA 5 do not have crossplay. You cannot play with anyone other than other players on the platform you're playing on.
Players have been hoping for the feature for a long time now, since GTA Online has been hugely popular for years.
However, it seems like Rockstar are not planning on adding the feature.
That makes a lot of sense, since the PC and console versions of GTA 5 and GTA Online can be quite different.
The PC version of the multiplayer component has quite a lot of features that the other versions don't. It would be difficult to have crossplay in the game when there are somewhat different versions.
If you're jumping into the single-player portion of GTA 5 now that it is on Xbox Game Pass, and have played it elsewhere, you might want to carry over your progress.
Unfortunately, that isn't possible either. If you're playing the game on a new platform, you'll have to start the story from the beginning once more.
While we'll let you know if cross-platform play ever comes to GTA 5, we might just have to hope that is makes its debut in the inevitable GTA 6.
Whether GTA Online continues between the games or is a brand new experience, crossplay is something that a lot of players expect nowadays, so it would likely be something that's included in GTA 6.
That is just something we'll have to keep out fingers crossed on, though.
