FPL 22/23 GW1: Liverpool and Man City to DOMINATE early weeks

share to other networks share to twitter share to facebook

The opening week of any FPL season is a bit of a guessing game as clubs adjust to new signings and even managers.

The form of any team or individual is unknown, however, there are some players that are simply must-haves.

Liverpool and Man City are two clubs you should be looking to max out with three players, but who could rival them for the title this year?

You are allowed unlimited transfers up until GW1 so there is time to tinker with your squad right up until the deadline.

Remember, you will have three chances to completely overhaul your squad this season thanks to the new rules.

Checking the fixtures is always a good place to start, and with favourable runs for last year's top two, Man City and Liverpool look like strong places to start.

SAFE HANDS - Alisson will be in plenty of teams come the opening day

It was a straight shoot-out between him and Brazilian counterpart Ederson, but Liverpool's opener against Fulham has swayed it in his favour.

Costing £5.5, Alisson is the joint-most expensive keeper available.

Sorry Fulham fans, but we expect Liverpool to win comfortably on the opening day of the Premier League, offering Trent Alexander-Arnold the opportunity for a bucket-load of points.

At £7.5 TAA is the priciest option in defence, but he did rack up the third-highest points total of any player last season.

ASSIST KING - Trent is clear as the most expensive defender in FPL

Joao Cancelo (£7.0) is our next pick, and like TAA he is a points machine and last season's second-highest scoring defender.

Our first new signing in the XI is Spurs star Ivan Perisic (£5.5) who could be a steal having been assigned to the Defender position.

ATTACK FROM THE BACK - Cancelo can get you points at both ends

Perisic is more than capable of playing further forward and could rack up some serious points this season.

Aston Villa's Matty Cash (£5.0) makes up our back four for GW1, and his opening three matches look like good scoring opportunities.

Mohamed Salah is just an obvious choice, even when you consider his hefty £13.0 price!

Last season's top scorer amassed a whopping 265 points and begins the season with fixtures against Fulham and Crystal Palace.

GOAL MACHINE - Salah will be looking to add another Golden Boot to his collection

Newcastle's midfield maestro Bruno Guimaraes (£6.0) is next on our teamsheet, and we are backing him to continue his excellent form into the new season.

Portuguese winger Pedro Neto (£5.5) is one of our differentials as we think he could be a bargain this season upon his return from injury.

BARGAIN BUY - Neto's price tag has caught the eye already

Completing the midfield is Bernardo Silva (£7.0) although this is subject to change as speculation continues around his future.

Silva has been a consistent performer in the City midfield and picked up more points than Bruno Fernandes last season.

Erling Haaland (£11.5) is already the most selected player in FPL 22/23, and you don't want to miss out on him!

The Norwegian's goal record is simply phenomenal, and with service from Kevin De Bruyne, he could break records this season.

CONSISTENT - Watkins picks up regular points through the season

Partnering Haaland in our XI is Ollie Watkins (£7.5) who seems to be the preferred choice for Steven Gerrard.

Watkins finished as the league's seventh-highest point-scoring forward with 131 last season.
