Should Fortnite bring back the Battle Pass Promise?

As we move towards the end of Fortnite Chapter 2, one community member posed a very interesting question to the wider fanbase. They asked whether or not Epic should bring back the Battle Pass Promise, a system from Chapter 1 that would grant a small XP boost for the entire season.

Whilst this would seem like a no-brainer to say yes to, would it actually make things worse or more of a grind as the game evolves? Let's take a look at both sides of the argument...

Bring it Back!

No one is ever going to turn down additional XP at no added cost. In modern gaming, you would almost expect the XP boost to be an added extra on top of the Battle Pass cost. This wasn't the case back in Chapter 1, however, the game was very different back then.

An XP boost is always going to be appreciated by any Fortnite player who purchases the Battle Pass and it could prevent situations like that at the beginning of Chapter 2, Season 8 where XP was so unfair that the entire system had to be overhauled after just a few weeks.

For players who struggle with the game, even since to introduction of bots, earning XP can be difficult. You also have to take into consideration how accessible the rewards in the Battle Pass are. It's all well and good paying for up to 100 tiers of content and a bunch of extras but if reaching that goal requires an unrealistic amount of game time then what are you really accomplishing?

Stay Away!

In my humble opinion, there just isn't any need for the Battle Pass Promise to return to Fortnite right now. Yes, mistakes were made at the beginning of Chapter 2, Season 8 but they were very quickly rectified. These mistakes will also be a constant reminder of what the community wants from each Season.

While many players can dedicate unlimited hours to the game and the grind of completing a Battle Pass, it's unfair to assume everyone can do this, so the rebalanced XP system actually allows for huge progression in a really short time.

If you use your game time wisely, completing quests and general performance can see you shooting up the Battle Pass tiers in no time and even completing it on just a few hours of play a week. The change allowing for an entire questline to be completed in one match was a massive help with this.

The addition of the Fortnite Crew and the return of the Battle Pass star system all create an environment where the 30% XP boost for Battle Pass owners wouldn't quite have the same benefit it used to. If we were talking a 50% or more boost, perhaps I would concede that it's worthwhile but for now, keep it out of the game.
