Fortnite Update 17.21 Is Now Live

Late last night it was announced that Fortnite Update 17.21 would be coming and unlike most minor updates. This update is now complete and the game is live once again.

Before the servers went down, a countdown appeared in the game. This countdown appears both in the middle of the island map and in the Fortnite lobby. We're unsure what this countdown means but we get the feeling Fortnite Update 17.20 isn't as minor as it first seems.

Fortnite Event Details Revealed

Fortnite Update 17.21 has triggered an in-game countdown leading to an event in around 10 days. This event is being hyped in a major way through in-game content and changes. We now have a first look at some of the changes coming in Fortnite Update 17.21 in relation to the event.

The above tweets are just two of the changes that have been noted so far. We know that Update 17.21 will also bring a brand new weapon, the Plasma Cannon and that the event, when it happens, has some cosmetics attached to it.

Fortnite Servers Offline For Update 17.21

As of 04:00 EST / 01:00 PST / 09:00 BST, the Fortnite servers went offline for update 17.21 downtime.

This will allow Epic to make and apply the changes required for the update with minimal impact on the integrity of the game.

What Is The In-Game Timer Counting Down To?

Just before the server downtime, a countdown appeared in the Fortnite lobby and middle of the map. The time ends at around 18:00 BST on Friday, 6 August, so we may have to wait a while to find out.

Some have speculated that it would be to do with the Ariana Grande concert that has been rumoured for some time now but that is looking unlikely. While it was leaked via very reliable methods, the Ariana Grande concert would be unlikely to receive a reveal like this.

As we close in on the end of Fortnite Season 7, it makes sense that a minor update like 17.21 brings this kind of buzz. Players are keen to see what's next in the alien invasion story after many have theorised that it could continue into Season 8.
