Rumours of an Among Us crossover with Fortnite were not completely untrue if the brand new Impostor Mode is anything to go by. The new game mode is clearly inspired by the popular indie title and applies that Fortnite star power and resources to create something special.
Here's a look at the new Impostor Mode in Fortnite Season 7.
Impostor Mode is Among Us on steroids
It's no secret that the team behind Among Us is small and has done amazing things given their resources but the team behind Fortnite has taken their premise and turned it up to 100.
Anyone familiar with Among Us will feel right at home in Impostor Mode. You have between 4-10 players in a lobby and two are selected to be Imposters. The rest of the players are agents.
The Agent's goal is to complete all of their assigned tasks before the Impostors off enough Agents to win the game. When bodies are found on the map, they can be reported, triggering meetings where accusations and alibis fly.
Players can also call emergency meetings when they are convinced they've seen something suspicious. There are layers to the gameplay to help the Impostors keep their identity a secret so that they can win the game.
Another level of polish
The team behind Fortnite is not small nor short of resources meaning that the Impostor Mode launches almost perfect from the get-go. Everything has been well thought through from the map to the sabotage methods and the meeting system.
There is no voice chat, thankfully, and you use a quick chat wheel to communicate, as well as basic emotes. It does let the game down when certain players don't engage, but for the most part, lobbies were full of players willing to commit to the Impostor Mode atmosphere and act the part.
The best thing about Impostor Mode, outside of the mode itself, is the XP. Having played just five games in Impostor Mode, I earned just shy of 100,000 XP, picking up approximately 17,000 XP per game.
If you're looking to get the Season 7 Battle Pass completed late in the day, this mode is a great way to get it done.
