For the average player just enjoying Fortnite in their own time, copyrighted music isn't really an issue. Outside of wanting to play your own music or listen to other things while playing, you have no need to switch it off. It can become a real problem when you want to start sharing your Fortnite clips online via social media.

Playing or streaming Fortnite and uploading clips to social media with copyrighted music is a risky game. Most social media platforms like Twitter, YouTube, and Twitch have a form of DMCA detection to spot when such tracks are being played without the correct permission and if it notices it in your clip, you could have it muted, deleted, or even have your account punished and banned.

That's why most games, Fortnite included, have begun adding "streamer modes" which replace or mute any copyrighted music and audio in the game. This option allows gamers to continue to share their gameplay with the world without the threat of copyrighted music triggering a DMCA.

To turn off the setting in Fortnite, simply load up the game and once you reach the lobby, open up the in-game settings and move over to the audio tab. Scroll all the way down to the bottom of the page and there you will find the "Licensed Audio" option with three settings available. Set it to "Mute all" and you're done. Fortnite will now only play the sounds that are safe to use online.
