It's almost time to say goodbye to Fortnite Chapter 2 - the Finale will be here in a few days some extended downtime will happen before the start of Chapter 3. We're expecting big things at this point, but how big is it all going to be? Here's everything we know about what Epic Games has up their sleeves...
Latest - Trailer Leaked
An advert for Fortnite Chapter 3 - intended for use on TikTok - has leaked online. In the video, we get a good look at the brand new island and why it may be referred to as 'The Flipside'.
FINAL STAGES - Chimpanski's "Guava Fort"
We don't know exactly where Chimpanski, Sloane, and the Fortnite Islanders are going to make their final fight against the Cube Queen - but we have a pretty good guess. The POI known as "Guava Fort" has entered its final stages of construction.
You can check it out below:
It doesn't look like much when you compare it to the Cube Pyramid in the background, but the nuclear payloads dotted about the rooftop areas have to do something - don't they?
BONUS XP - It's ending a bit early!
Season 8 is ending a day earlier than initially forecast and that means there's some bonus XP up for grabs if you own the Season 8 Battle Pass.
You can log in to Fortnite right now on any platform and claim your free 225,000 XP if you have the Season 8 Battle Pass - this could be the difference between getting your hands on Carnage and missing out!
Fortnite is also going to start reminding people of the Chapter 2 Finale - so like the tweet below to keep on top of it all.
The Finale has been confirmed
We now have confirmation that Fortnite Chapter 2 will end on Saturday, 4 December. 'The End' event will take place on this day at 21:05 GMT / 16:05 ET / 13:05 PT. We expect the Black Hole to return taking the game offline until Tuesday, 7 December.
SPOILERS - A handful of details about the event
TweaBR has shared the following details about the "The End" event - take them with a pinch of salt until we see corroboration, but this could be an exciting finale to Chapter 2.
- Sliding Mechanic - This was teased in a leaked Loading Screen image earlier and it looks like it's coming in the update that introduces the event.
- Creature Killer - The in-game event could be a wave-like survival mode against the Cube Queen and her forces.
- Catch up - A teleporting mechanic could be introduced to keep everyone on the same narrative beat.
They also suggest that these are going to be the following gameplay phases:
- Att - Attack
- Bea - Beam
- Bre - Breach
- Bri - Bridge
- Cin - Cinematic
- Esc - Escape
- Lob - Lobby
- PCin - Reloading into a game, perhaps?
- Swi - Possibly Swimming related?
THE END - Another Fortnite Island-ending event
We don't have too many details about the Chapter 2 Season 8 end-of-season event - however, all we know is that it's going to bring about the conclusion of Chapter 2's storyline altogether and it's going to be called "The End".
InTheShade, a Fortnite Leaker, has shared the following information and it seems to have only been further confirmed by more official sources.
We should see downtime start on December 5th and end on December 7th. However, this is unconfirmed. It does look like The Foundation has dialogue this time around so we should see something a little exciting regarding the mysterious "Seven".
DOWNTIME - "NightNight" files updated
During the 18.40 Update, Epic Games has updated a few of its "NightNight" files - these all relate to an extended period of downtime, like Chapter 2's Black Hole event.
At the moment, we only know about the following changes - which don't sound important, but they must have been made for a reason.
- New in-game text during "NightNight"
- "Game Update Available"
- "An update is available. Please close the game if you are ready to install the latest update."
Expect to learn more soon...
When does Fortnite Chapter 3 Begin?
If Fortnite Chapter 3 is indeed what's next up for the game, then it will begin on or around Monday, 6 December. We know that Season 8 will end on Sunday, 5 December, it also appears that the Black Hole will return marking extended server downtime.
It's very likely that if the black hole is used, Fortnite servers will enter downtime from Sunday, 5 December through to Tuesday, 7 December. This is only because Tuesday is the typical day for updates to take place. The last time the black hole was used this was the case as it was around for approximately 37 hours.
Despite all of the rumours and suggestions that Chapter 3 is next, there is still yet to be any official confirmation and Season 9 could be the next step for Fortnite. It wouldn't be the first time that the community got a little lost in the hype!
