The news we've all been waiting for has just dropped - The End is coming and Fortnite 18.40 isn't just the final update of Chapter 2 Season 8, it's the end of Chapter 2 as a whole! Here's the latest...

UPDATE - Fortnite announces The End

It looks like the leakers were right - which isn't a shock - and Fortnite's next in-game event is going to be the Finale for Chapter 2. You can check out the teaser below:

It's going to be a 16-player event that isn't going to be archived by Epic Games - this is a special occasion that you should make sure you're tuning in for.

“The End” is a one-time only, in-game event. Content creators and players looking to relive the final moments of Fortnite Chapter 2 should take steps to record and archive their experience as replays will not be available. Players will be unable to edit their settings once "The End" begins, so please adjust any visual options to your preferred viewing experience before joining. Because the Season will end a day early, all players who log in before the end of the Season will receive a 225,000 XP reward."

EVENT PLAYLIST - The End is coming...

Fortnite leaker InTheShade has shared the following information regarding the Chapter 2 Season 8 end-of-season Event Playlist:

As you can see above, it looks like the new Event Playlist is going to be titled "The End". There are strong rumours that Chapter 3 Season 1 is due to start next, not Chapter 2 Season 9, and this seems to fit that argument well.

It also looks like The Foundation is going to have dialogue - imagine if it was The Rock. Imagine.

Fuelling these rumours, the 18.40 Update made a few changes to Fortnite's "NightNight" files. These are the files used for an extended in-game planned downtime - something akin to the infamous Black Hole Event.

The following changes have been made:

  • New in-game text during "NightNight"
  • "Game Update Available"
  • "An update is available. Please close the game if you are ready to install the latest update."

It isn't exactly being signposted by Epic Games, but all of these changes seem to point towards the same thing. The Convergence POI - known by some as Cube Town - has now started to become Cube Pyramid, too. This undoubtedly has something to do with it all, but we might not find out for a little while yet.

We're expecting Fortnite downtime to start on December 5th and run until December 7th - take this with a pinch of salt, though.
