Team of the Week 18 (TOTW) predictions

The football is getting us through the gloomy January, so who has done enough this time to make the FIFA 18 Team of the Week?

We may all be back to work, but the footballing action from around Europe at the weekend helped the January blues. In the Premier League, Manchester City were finally thwarted, with a superb Liverpool performance giving The Citizens their first defeat of the season in a scintillating 4-3 victory at Anfield.

Manchester City’s loss leaves Barcelona as the only unbeaten side in Europe’s big five leagues, and although Barca had a scare against Real Sociedad, they fought back from 2-0 down to win 4-2. Bayern Munich picked up another victory in the Bundesliga in a 3-1 over Bayer Leverkusen, and Ligue 1 front runners PSG defeated Nantes 1-0, but the referee will grab the headlines for kicking out at a player.

So in those results who has done enough to secure a spot in the FIFA 18: Team of the Week? The top performers from across the globe this week will receive an in-form card in Ultimate Team, which you can find in packs and in the FUT transfer market. The cards will be released at 6pm GMT on Wednesday, January 17, and you can challenge the whole squad for a coin boost.

Kasper Schmeichel (OVR 83 – IF 85)

Chelsea may not have been at their best against Leicester, drawing a third successive game 0-0, but the ten men of Leicester do have Kasper Schmeichel to thank for taking the point. The Foxes may have been the better side, but the Danish goalkeeper still needed to make seven saves in the stalemate, cementing their place in mid-table.

Schmeichel’s performance should see him make the Team of the Week, with a boost of two to an 85 overall is the least he deserves. His normal 83 rated card will cost you 2,800 FUT coins on PS4 and 3,300 on Xbox One.

Theodor Gebre Selassie (OVR 75 – IF 81)

Werder Bremen had to call upon right back Theodor Gebre Selassie to grab the equaliser against Hoffenheim. The Czech Republic international bundled home a corner to tie the game up at 1-1, with the point aiding Bremen’s conquest for Bundesliga survival.

Gebre Selassie is likely to receive a boost of six into the 80s this week, and we predict an 81 card for the defender. His 75 rating is priced at just 400 coins on PS4 and 500 on Xbox One.

Juan Cala (OVR 72 – IF 80)

Getafe picked up a 1-0 win over Malaga in La Liga, with centre back Juan Cala grabbing the crucial goal. A free kick got nodded back into the danger area, with Cala powering his header into the net. Getafe now rise to eighth spot in the division, just three points off the European places.

Spanish defender Cala should receive a healthy boost to 80 this week, and his normal 72 card will cost you 550 coins on PS4 and 1,000 on Xbox One.

Jonny Evans (OVR 79 – IF 84)

Linked with a move to Manchester City, Jonny Evans has stuck to his task at West Brom, with his goal against Brighton helping The Baggies to a 2-0 victory. The Hawthorns club are now just two points from escaping the relegation zone, with the side slowly turning a corner under new manager Alan Pardew.

Northern Ireland international Evans has a 79 rating on Ultimate Team, which we believe can rise to a superb in-form rating of 84. His normal gold card will cost 450 coins on PS4 and 500 on Xbox One.

James Ward-Prowse (OVR 78 – IF 83)

Southampton may have thrown away a 2-0 lead against Watford, but it was a good afternoon for midfielder James Ward-Prowse who bagged both Saints goals. The England international has struggled with form and consistent game-time of late, but this performance should spur him on in Southampton’s battle against relegation.

Ward-Prowse should receive an increase of five to 83 this week, and his normal 78 card will cost you around 750 coins on both consoles in Ultimate Team.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (OVR 80 – IF 84)

With Philippe Coutinho joining Barcelona, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain came into the Liverpool midfield and picked up the man of the match award against Manchester City. The summer arrival from Arsenal showed great energy in the 4-3 victory, and his goal after just nine minutes set the tone for the heavyweight clash. Chamberlain then played in Roberto Firmino to put the Reds 2-1 up, and they just managed to hold on against the Premier League frontrunners.

The right midfielder is likely to receive an in-form central midfield card this week, and we believe he is worthy of an 84 rating. His normal 80 card is priced at 1,100 coins on PS4 and 1,400 on Xbox One.

James Rodriguez (OVR 86 – IF 89)

With so many stars in the Bayern Munich side, it was always going to take some time for summer recruit James Rodriguez to shine, but the Colombian showed his worth against Bayer Leverkusen at the weekend. After setting up Franck Ribery, Rodriguez clipped in a free-kick in injury time to seal a 3-1 victory, and Bayern now have one hand on the Bundesliga trophy as they lead the division by 13 points.

A selection for the Team of the Week, would cause Rodriguez’s ‘Ones to Watch’ card to get a boost for the first time this season. His normal card is deserving of a boost to 89, with his gold 86 rating costing around 23,000 coins on both consoles.

Manuel Lanzini (OVR 81 – IF 85)

Few expected David Moyes to have such an impact when he took up the reins at West Ham in November, but the Scotsman has got the best out of attacking midfielder Manuel Lanzini. The Argentine scored twice and picked up an assist as the Hammers blew past Huddersfield 4-1, to rise to 11th in the table.

Lanzini’s new found form should take him to an in-form 85 rating on Ultimate Team this week, and you can get his normal 81 card for just 800 coins on PS4 and 900 on Xbox One.

Luis Suarez (OVR 92 – SIF 94)

There’s simply no stopping Barcelona this season, with the Spanish giants the only unbeaten side left in Europe’s big five leagues. On the same day Manchester City’s run came to an end, it looked as if Barca’s would as well, but they fought back from 2-0 down against Real Sociedad to win 4-2. Luis Suarez was the key man, scoring two goals and assisting another, giving them a nine-point lead in La Liga.

The Uruguayan Suarez is likely to receive an in-form boost of just two to 94, due to his very high overall 92 rating. That normal card will cost 420,000 coins on PS4 and 365,000 on Xbox One, with his in-form 93 rating priced at 750,000 on PS4 and 690,000 on Xbox One.

Niclas Fullkrug (OVR 73 – SIF 83)

The performances of the weekend came from Hannover’s Niclas Fullkrug, who scored all three goals in the 3-2 victory over Mainz in the Bundesliga. The newly promoted side fell 2-0 down after half an hour but Fullkrug’s finishing turned things around and lifted Hannover to 10th in the Bundesliga.

The German already has a TOTW appearance behind him this season, so his 73 overall could rise by ten to 83. His normal silver card is priced at 2,400 coins on PS4 and 2,600 on Xbox One, with an in-form 79 rating costing 16,000 coins on both consoles.

Marko Arnautovic (OVR 82 – SIF 87)

Another key part of the West Ham turnaround, Marko Arnautovic has been the star man from the past month. The Austrian has had to deputise up front in recent week, scoring six goals since mid-December. Against Huddersfield, the former Stoke player scored one and assisted two more, meaning The Hammers are now unbeaten in four matches.

The left midfielder will switch to striker this week if he’s selected, and with two in-form cards already, he will rise to an 87 rating. His gold 82 card is priced at 1,800 coins on PS4 and 2,00 on Xbox One, with his in-form 84 costing 30,000 on PS4 and 40,000 on Xbox One. As for his 86 in-form, you will need 88,000 coins on PS4 and 110,000 on Xbox One.
