FIFA 23 Liverpool Career Mode Guide: Starting Lineup, Who to Sign & more

Liverpool have consistently competed at the highest level in Europe over the course of the last few seasons and are subsequently one of the best teams to use in FIFA 23.

However, a combination of the Reds' relentless hard work and an ageing squad has left them with some issues that are proving significant for Jurgen Klopp's men in real-world football right now.

So, can you be the man to take over and ensure Liverpool stay dominant in England over the next several seasons? We're providing all the tools for you to succeed as the Reds manager in FIFA 23 Career Mode.

Starting Lineup and Formation

Liverpool lines up as a 4-3-3 False 9 by default and there isn't really much point in looking to change too much from their prefered system.

You could use any one of the 4-3-3 variations if you prefer playing with a more conventional striker. The 4-3-3 Holding variation gives you a 'number six' which could be beneficial for the side.

The Reds' strongest front three is made up of Mohamed Salah, Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz. The Liverpool attacking trio combine to make a balanced and lethal force in FIFA 23.

The two box-to-box players in the engine room are Thiago Alcantara and Jordan Henderson, who should provide both goals and assists for the team.

Giving the team defensively stability in midfield is the world-class number six, Fabinho.

The full-backs pick themselves, with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson the standout options, whilst Ibrahima Konate partners Virgil van Dijk in central defence.

Alisson is the man between the sticks and is deservedly rated as one of the best goalkeepers in the entire game this year.

Tactics and Instructions

Defensively you should keep things as they are, set to Press After Possession Loss to swarm the opposition if the ball is turned over.

Offensively, you may want to switch from Slow Build Up to Long Ball, in order to get your main threats of Salah and Diaz in behind the opposition.

Both the full-backs are set to Join The Attack, so it may be worth switching Fabinho's instructions to either Stay Back While Attacking or Drop Between Defenders.

You also want to ensure that the CDM is set to Cover Centre so that he cuts out anything coming down the middle of the park.

Instruct both wingers to Get In Behind, whilst setting Mo Salah on Cut Inside so that you can take advantage of shooting on his lethal left foot.

Training

When it comes to developing youngsters, it's difficult to know where to start with this Liverpool squad which is packed full of high-potential players.

Harvey Elliott (POT 87) and Fabio Carvalho (POT 86) can develop into a world-class attacking midfield duo with just a few years of training.

The Gunners have one of the most promising centre-back partnerships in world football in the form of Ibrahima Konate (POT 88) and Joe Gomez (POT 86).

Both Diogo Jota (POT 89) and Darwin Nunez (POT 89) still have plenty of room for growth despite already being top-tier cards.

Transfer Market

Starting transfer budget: £154 million

Who should go?

The Liverpool squad is at a point where there are several ageing pros that can be sold in order to free up funds and sign fresh, young players.

32-year-old club captain Jordan Henderson (OVR 83) has given his all for the club but the time has come for the Englishman to move on.

The centre-mid can be sold for around £25 million and replaced with a top-tier box-to-box midfielder in FIFA 23.

The same goes for 27-year-old Naby Keita (OVR 81), whose sale should free up around £30 million for your transfer budget.

Although the Brazilian fan favourite Roberto Firmino still has real quality, the 30-year-old isn't getting any younger and can be sold to free up roughly £33 million.

Jake Cain and James Norris can also be sold as their potential rating is not high enough in FIFA 23 to challenge for a first-team spot:

Loans

The Reds have ample depth, meaning there are a number of youngsters who can be sent out on loan.

You should look to offer 17-year-old English winger Kaide Gordon (POT 84) regular minutes elsewhere in order to develop properly.

Calvin Ramsey (POT 81) can also be sent out on loan as he will struggle to get any game time in the Liverpool midfield.

Who to Sign

New transfer budget: £245 million

Top Class Centre-Mid

One clear weakness in the Liverpool starting XI in FIFA 23 lies in midfield and with Jordan Henderson. Once the club captain is sold, you'll need a replacement as soon as possible.

Fabinho and Thiago could strike a nice balance with a dynamic box-to-box CM, so that's exactly what we're after.

Borussia Dortmund centre-mid Jude Bellingham should be your number one target, with an already brilliant card and the potential to grow into a 91 OVR player in FIFA 23.

The Englishman won't come cheap, however, with £100 million perhaps required to sign him, but his wages of £41,000 a week are respectable.

Alternative options

Versatile Forward

It's clear to see that Liverpool have great options going forward, but there is still room for a promising attacker to come in and challenge the likes of Salah in the long run.

Spain starlet Ferran Torres should be your number one target. The pacey forward can play on both wings as well as down the middle and can be picked up for around £50 million.

The 22-year-old has brilliant acceleration, sprint speed and dribbling as well as four-star skill moves and a four-star weak foot.

Not to mention he can grow to a potential of 88 in Career Mode!

Alternative options

Board Expectations

There are three critical expectations from the board, Brand Exposure, Domestic Success, and Continental Success.

Domestic Success and Continental Success mean the board expects you to win everything - the Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League.

Youth Development is of a low priority, so you don't need to worry too much about this one.

Finally, there is the low-priority Financial target, which can be achieved pretty easily over the course of a couple of seasons.
