FIFA 23 - The return of FUT Weekly Tournaments adds new dynamic to Ultimate Team

Despite Ultimate Team fanatics enjoying FIFA 23's most fiercely competitive modes such as FUT Champions and Division Rivals, there is a feeling amongst the community that the competitions are becoming stagnant.

The format for these competitions has changed slightly over the past couple of years, but the premise pretty much remains the same.

We feel the re-introduction of FUT Weekly Tournaments and Daily Knockout Tournaments can add a new dynamic to Ultimate Team competitions.

Run It Back

Nearly every week EA drops a new promotional squad in Ultimate Team, with cards also made available to unlock via Squad Building Challenges and Objectives.

So, why not make one more unique item available to unlock via a Weekly tournament?

The weekly tournament would consist of knockout rounds, with a certain number of entries available to each Ultimate Team player.

This would bring an extra element of jeopardy to FUT competitions.

Perhaps EA could bring back a promo card reward for achieving the Weekend League qualification, as we saw back in FIFA 17.

The introduction of a special item as an added bonus for getting through to the Weekend League would only be realistic if EA made the qualification process for the FUT Champions finals more difficult.

At the moment, all you need is four wins out of ten in order to play in the Weekend League, which is far too easy, if you ask me.

Increasing the difficulty of qualifying for the Weekend League would bring back that element of elitism for those that do conquer the challenge.

Shake Things Up

Daily and Weekly Tournaments in Ultimate Team can be shaken up with certain squad requirements like you see in SBCs day to day.

EA can change the entry requirements depending on how rare they want the card to be amongst the FIFA community.

For example, back in FIFA 17, you could only unlock the special Rudy card if you had a maximum of eight Gold Cards in your starting XI.

The introduction of squad requirements would cause a ripple effect in FUT, making certain card prices rise massively due to the increased demand.

This adds a whole new dynamic to trading in Ultimate Team, allowing the grinders amongst you to get stuck into a new venture.

The unique Daily Knockout promotional cards will only be available for a limited time, making them even more difficult to acquire.

These special items effectively become 'limited edition'.
