FIFA 22 TOTY: Jorginho becomes FUT 22's BEST midfielder

If you hadn't heard already, Team of the Year has arrived in FIFA 22 Ultimate Team with EA revealing the 11 players to receive the awesome new cards this year.

As always there has been some controversy over the players selected, especially with Liverpool's Mohamed Salah missing out!

One of the key talking points though are the ratings, and there is one man in particular who can be delighted with his new 97 OVR.

Final XI

Leaks put a stop to any surprises in the official Team of the Year XI reveal, but the ratings have caused a bit of a stir!

Unsurprisingly the forwards are the top-rated players in the squad with Lionel Messi and Robert Lewandowski picking up huge new 98 OVR cards.

FINAL CUT - This is the 2021 Team of the Year

However, it was in midfield where the biggest shock came as Jorginho's 97 OVR trumped the 96 ratings dished out to Kevin De Bruyne and N'Golo Kante.

Achraf Hakimi's inclusion has raised a few eyebrows, but both he and Joao Cancelo are the lowest-rated TOTY cards in FUT 22. An anti-full-back agenda!

Number One

Anyone who thought Jorginho would be the best central midfielder in FIFA 22 would have been deemed a fool, yet here we are.

Only People's 2021 Sexiest Man Paul Rudd can sum this one up perfectly. Really, who would have thought it?

Anyway, after a year in which Jorginho won both the Champions League with Chelsea and Euros with Italy, he does have a serious claim to the title.

Jorginho's 97 OVR puts out-ranks Kevin De Bruyne and N'Golo Kante as the other Team of the Year players, with both men receiving 96 OVR cards.

Not only is the Italian the best midfielder in the TOTY XI, but he is also now level with Diego Maradona, and is outright the best out-and-out CM in the game.

Only Pele (Prime Icon) can boast a higher rating as a midfielder, but his 98 OVR card is a CAM, and with 60 Defending is not your box-to-box type.

Rival Challengers

Yes, we know Jorginho won the Champions League. Yes, we know Jorginho won the Euros. Yes, we know Jorginho came third in the Ballon d'Or rankings.

But, is he deserving of the title of the best midfielder in the game?

Our argument stems from the players he is surrounded by. N'Golo Kante is more influential in the Chelsea midfield, and the same applies to Marco Verratti for the national team.

Don't just take our word for it though! According to WhoScored.com, Verratti averaged a match rating of 7.59 for Italy in their successful Euros campaign with two assists.

Jorginho's average of 7.28 included no goal involvements, a yellow card, and a missed penalty in the final.

In the Blues' Champions League run, Kante picked up Man of the Match in both legs of the semi-final, and then the final itself. What more can he do?

This is by no means saying Jorginho was poor, far from it. His record and sheer presence in these successful teams are testament to his ability.

However, when it comes to being the best in the world? It's a no from us, and that's without even mentioning Kevin De Bruyne...
