FIFA 22 Burnley Career Mode Guide: Starting lineup and who to sign

Sean Dyche has done a great job in establishing Burnley as a constant in the Premier League, but The Clarets have struggled to push on over the course of the past few seasons.

So, can you be the man to take Burnley to the next level and challenge for the Premier League title in FIFA 22 Career Mode?

Team Rating

Burnley has a 4-star rating in FIFA 22.

The breakdown of the ratings is as follows: ATT 76, MID 76, DEF 77.

Starting Lineup and Formation

It would be rude not to play with the 4-4-2 formation when using Burnley!

Luckily, the 4-4-2 formation is a great system in FIFA 22 and suits the Burnley squad very nicely.

Starting with the strike pairing up top, we have the big man Chris Wood, with Matej Vydra playing just off of the number nine.

SOLID SYSTEM - The trusty 4-4-2 formation is tried and tested

The two creative players operating in the wide areas are Dwight McNeil and Johann Berg Gudmundsson, who will hopefully provide both goals and assists for the team.

In the engine room, we have Ashley Westwood and Josh Brownhill.

In the full-back positions, we've gone for the speedy Maxwel Cornet and Connor Roberts, whilst Ben Mee partners James Tarkowski in central defence.

Nick Pope is the man between the sticks, of course.

Tactics and Instructions

With the two strikers being the main source of goals, we want to maximise the pair's goal threat.

So, instruct the strikers to Stay Forward and Stay Central in order to give him the best possible chance of a sight at goal.

Left-back Maxwel Cornet is the more attacking of the two full-backs, so instruct Ivorian international to Overlap, whilst keeping Connor Roberts on Stay Back While Attacking.

Make sure you instruct your two box-to-box midfielders to Cover Centre and Stay Back While Attacking, or you may leave yourself very open in midfield.

Development Plans

When it comes to developing youngsters, there aren't too many outstanding options within this Burnley squad.

We would recommend transforming Nathan Collins (POT 82) into an out and out centre-back, as he can develop into a top-class centre-half with a few years of training.

Dwight McNeil (POT 83) is another player who can become a truly top-class Premier League midfielder after several years of development.

You could also opt to convert Maxwel Cornet (POT 78) into a winger and utilise his blistering speed in attack.

Transfer Market

Starting budget: £23 million

Who should go?

This Burnley squad seems to have a fair few older players who can be considered as 'dead wood'.

Matthew Lowton (OVR 76), Charlie Taylor (OVR 76), Jack Cork (OVR 76), Jay Rodriguez (OVR 74), Ashley Barnes (OVR 74) and Kevin Long (OVR 71) can all go to free up some funds for new signings.

We would also be tempted to let James Tarkowski (OVR 81), Ashley Westwood (OVR 78) and Chris Wood (OVR 79) leave, as they are ageing players who do not fit the 'meta' of FIFA 22.

The sales of these three players can generate upwards of £50 million for future signings, but you will need to fill these gaps with young, quality players.

The following youngsters can also be sold as their potential rating is not high enough in FIFA 22 to challenge for a first-team spot:

Anthony Glennon, Robert Harker, Anthony Gomez Mancini, Owen Dodgson, Mark Helm, Jacob Bedeau

Loans

Lewis Richardson (POT 76) is one of the more promising youngsters on the books who isn't near the first team at the moment, so a loan spell early on could do him the world of good.

Bobby Thomas (POT 76) is also a promising young player capable of becoming a good Premier League squad member in the future.

The Clarets already have several players out on loan too, with Bailey Peacock-Farrell (POT 75) the main one to keep an eye on.

Who to sign?

After player sales, you should have upwards of £80 million to spend on signings, but there are a few positions that need filling.

Firstly, you'll need a box-to-box midfielder who can break up the play but also drive forward and support the attack.

AC Milan’s Franck Kessie (OVR 84) is our favourite in this position, and if you are prepared to wait a season you could snap him up on a free!

With an incredible 94 Stamina and high work rates both defensively and offensively, Kessie really does cover every blade of grass.

Next, we are after a new pacey striker who can score plenty of goals for the side.

Cagliari’s Keita Balde (OVR 76) is our favourite option in this position and is available for just £9 million.

Finally, you'll need a new centre-back, and you should have PLENTY of cash to splash in this area.

Liverpool centre-half Joe Gomez (OVR 82) is our choice as he fits the meta perfectly and has plenty of room for development.
