FIFA 20 Ultimate Team: Best French Team - Pogba, Griezmann, Mbappe & more

In terms of squad depth and quality, there aren't many nations out there who have it better than France.

With top class experienced players and a whole host of young talent coming through the ranks, its safe to say that France will compete in the latter stages of international tournaments for many years to come.

The current world champions are littered with stars from defence through attack, here is the best French team you can build in FIFA Ultimate Team this year.

GK - Hugo Lloris (OVR 88)

Age: 32

Position: GK

Club: Tottenham Hotspur

Cost: 33.5k PS4 / 31.25k Xbox One

In goal there is only one name in contention, and that is Tottenham number one Hugo Lloris.

Lloris has been loyal servant to the French team for years and captained the side to World Cup glory in 2018. At 33.5k he is one of the more expensive keepers in the game, however he does bring some impressive stats for that price tag, with an impressive 91 GK reflexes.

Alternative option: Stéphane Ruffier (OVR 81)

RB - Kevin Malcuit (OVR 78)

Age: 28

Position: RB

Club: Napoli

Cost: 3.2k PS4 / 3.8k Xbox One

There aren't many high rated French RB's, however there are several overpowered beasts that can be selected; we've gone for Napoli RB Kevin Malcuit.

The 28-year-old is yet to win an international cap for Les Bleus, however on FIFA, he is the best the nation has to offer. He has everything you'll need for an attacking fullback, with 85 pace, 78 dribbling and 75 physical key in those bursts down the right flank.

Alternative option: Kenny Lala (OVR 79)

CB - Raphael Varane (OVR 85)

Age: 26

Position: CB

Club: Real Madrid

Cost: 279k PS4 / 217k Xbox One

The first of two centre halves in the 4-1-2-1-2 formation that we have selected is Real Madrid's Raphael Varane.

Following injury in the 2018-19 campaign, Varane saw his overall rating drop from an 86 to an 85, however that hasn't stopped him from being one of the games most sought after defenders. He's not cheap, however with 83 pace, 85 defending and 80 physical, he will command the back four.

Alternative option: Aymeric Laporte (OVR 87)

CB - Clement Lenglet (OVR 85)

Age: 24

Position: CB

Club: FC Barcelona

Cost: 108k PS4 / 90k Xbox One

Partnering Varane, we have Barcelona's summer signing, Clement Lenglet. The €35 million man made his international debut for France earlier in the summer, and scored his first goal for his country against Andorra in their recent clash.

Like Varane, he wont come cheap, however his superb 90 defensive awareness and 87 interceptions make him a nightmare for any forward.

Alternative option: Samuel Umtiti (OVR 86)

LB - Ferland Mendy (OVR 80)

Age: 24

Position: LB

Club: Real Madrid

Cost: 50k PS4 / 40k Xbox One

With a number of high-quality French left backs, Mendy just about makes the cut. The Real Madrid man has been near extinct for most of the game, and whilst 50,000 coins seems outrageous for an 80 rated player, he is the DREAM sweaty fullback.

With two solid centre-halves covering, his high/medium work rates won't be an issue, whilst 90 acceleration and 88 sprint speed will make him lethal on the overlap.

Alternative Option: Jerome Roussillon (OVR 82)

CDM - N'Golo Kante (OVR 89)

Age: 28

Position: CDM

Club: Chelsea

Cost: 379k PS4 / 309k Xbox One

Playing that N'Golo Kante role in front of the back four is, well, N'Golo Kante.

The man with the best engine in football, N'Golo is the perfect player to cause havoc in the opponents midfield by getting in the way of everything they throw at him. 97 stamina means that he hardly ever stops running, whilst 92 interceptions and 90 defensive awareness means he will always be where you need him to be.

Alternative option: Blaise Matuidi (OVR 85)

RM - Ousmane Dembele (OVR 84)

Age: 22

Position: RM / RW

Club: FC Barcelona

Cost: 78k PS4 / 64k Xbox One

The arrival of Antoine Griezmann over the summer left Dembele's place in the Barcelona side in doubt, and an injury on the opening day of the season means he hasn't seen much action this term.

However on FIFA, its a different story all together. Like Martial, Dembele is a direct winger who likes to run at his man and get a shot away; whilst his finishing may not be as strong as Martial (79) he can still trouble the keeper. Use a position change (LW>LM) to maximise his chemistry.

Alternative option: Allan Saint-Maximin (OVR 79)

LM - Anthony Martial (OVR 83)

Age: 23

Position: LM / LW

Club: Manchester United

Cost: 51k PS4 / 41k Xbox One

Injuries have halted the progression of 23-year-old Anthony Martial over the past couple of seasons, however that doesn't stop him from being the starting LM in this French side.

As has been the case for last two editions of FIFA, Martial has pace to burn. 89 sprint speed and 88 acceleration means he can get away from his man in a flash, and with 82 finishing, he often finds the net.

Alternative option:  Kingsley Coman (OVR 84)

CAM - Paul Pogba (OVR 88)

Age: 26

Position: CM / CAM

Club: Manchester United

Cost: 416k PS4 / 369k Xbox One

Now this might be a contentious decision, but in at the CAM role we have selected Manchester United's Paul Pogba.

Whilst his base card may be a CM, he has all the qualities needed for a CAM in the 4-1-2-1-2 setup. His high/medium work-rates mean he will stay high up the pitch, whilst his top quality passing (90 long and 86 short) means he can find that killer pass.

Alternative option: Nabil Fakir (OVR 84)

ST - Kylian Mbappe (OVR 89)

Age: 20

Position: ST

Club: Paris Saint Germain

Cost: 1.06m PS4 / 890k Xbox One

We're running out of superlatives to describe this man. At just 20 years of age, Mbappe is a World Cup winner and one of the most sought after names in European Football.

His card on FIFA is just insane, to think on FIFA 17 he was just a mere 71 overall and now he is an 89 worth over 1 million coins, it's been quite the rise for the forward. 96 acceleration, 96 sprint speed and 89 finishing. Need we say anymore?

Alternative option: Wissam Ben Yedder (OVR 83)

ST - Antoine Griezmann (OVR 89)

+ 12

Age: 28

Position: CF / ST

Club: FC Barcelona

Cost: 302k PS4 / 260k Xbox One

France has a number of impressive options going forward, however if you're looking for a clinical goalscorer to lead the line, then look no further than Antoine Griezmann.

It has been a slow start to life at Barcelona following this big move in the summer, however with 90 positioning and 89 finishing, we doubt you'll struggle to get the goals with him in this side, so he's well worth his price.

Alternative option: Alexandre Lacazette (OVR 86)

The Ultimate French Team

Whilst national teams are a rarity on FIFA Ultimate Team, if you are going to go down that avenue, France would be a very good choice. The team won't come cheap though, costing well in excess of 2 million coins.

There is a number of players who will need position change cards in order to achieve full chemistry; Paul Pogba (CM > CAM), Anthony Martial (LW > LM), Ousmane Dembele (RW > RM) and Antoine Griezmann (CF > ST).
