FIFA 19 Wonderkids: Best American players to sign in Career Mode

The MLS is improving year on year and producing some exciting talent, here we list ALL the best American wonderkids on FIFA 19.

Despite winning the CONCACAF Gold Cup in 2017, USA failed to qualify for the 2018 World Cup in Russia with Panama reaching the finals in their place. However, an exciting crop of young players are emerging to give the USA hope. Christian Pulisic of Borussia Dortmund is arguably the most promising talent, and he has the potential to become a world star.

How to choose the best American wonderkids in FIFA 19 Career Mode

This list has been compiled using players that meet specific criteria. Every player on the list is 23 years old or younger with the potential to reach at least 80 overall on FIFA 19 Career Mode. These players must also start with a minimum 65 OVR allowing managers to use them effectively from the start of their Career Mode.

Christian Pulisic (OVR 79 – POT 87)

Age: 20
Position: RM
Club: Borussia Dortmund
Country: United States
Best Stats: 93 Acceleration, 90 Balance, 88 Sprint Speed
Cost: £30.1 million (release clause)
Wage: £23,000

Highly coveted winger Christian Pulisic is on the radar of most of Europe’s top clubs. The pacey 20-year-old has already made over 100 first team appearances for Dortmund as well as earning 23 caps for the national side, scoring nine goals in an already impressive career to date.

Blessed with lightning pace and scintillating dribbling skills, Pulisic is a nightmare for defenders on FIFA 19. The teenager can reach an 87 overall, making his £30 million release clause look like a bargain. His wages at current club Dortmund are also low meaning every big club can sign the youngster.

Weston McKennie (OVR 74 – POT 86)

Age: 20
Position: CM
Club: Schalke 04
Country: United States
Best Stats: 85 Jumping, 83 Stamina, 82 Strength
Cost: £15.9 million (release clause)
Wage: £11,000

Another American plying his trade in the Bundesliga, Weston McKennie played a major role for Schalke 04 this season. The 20-year-old’s versatility has seen him play at centre back, defensive midfield, central midfield and attacking midfield so far in the 2018/19 season, recording two goals and an assist in his 15 appearances.

Teenager McKennie is a midfield powerhouse with his power attributes being his strengths. Standing at 6’1” and possessing 85 jumping, the American international is dominant in the air and his 83 stamina allows him to run for the whole match. With an 86 potential, McKennie is a future star on FIFA 19 Career Mode.

Timothy Weah (OVR 69 – POT 85)

Age: 18
Position: ST
Club: PSG
Country: United States
Best Stats: 83 Acceleration, 83 Sprint Speed, 75 Agility
Cost: £4.8 million (release clause)
Wage: £14,000

The son of legendary forward and current Liberian President George Weah, Timothy Weah has big shoes to fill. The teenager has been limited to just two first team starts this season but has still registered two goals for French giants Paris Saint-Germain.

Available for just £4.8 million on FIFA 19 Career Mode, Weah can prove to be an astute signing with his 85 potential. Weah boasts 83 pace and can prove to be a handful for any defender on his day as well as having plenty of time to improve into a top striker.

Zack Steffen (OVR 75 – POT 84)

Age: 23
Position: GK
Club: Columbus Crew
Country: United States
Best Stats: 83 GK Reflexes, 76 GK Diving, 72 GK Kicking
Cost: £12 million (release clause)
Wage: £5,000

Zack Steffen’s impressive year with Columbus Crew has seen him linked with a move to Manchester City to provide back-up to Ederson. The American international helped Columbus Crew to keep 11 clean sheets in 32 matches as they reached the MLS Play-Offs Quarter-Finals.

Standing at 6’3” Steffen is a commanding presence in the box and has excellent reflexes allowing him to make saves other goalkeepers would struggle to replicate. The 23-year-old shot-stopper will cost £12 million on FIFA 19 Career Mode but can reach an 84 overall and become a reliable man between the posts.

Tyler Adams (OVR 72 – POT 84)

Age: 19
Position: CDM
Club: New York Red Bulls
Country: United States
Best Stats: 86 Stamina, 86 Balance, 83 Sprint Speed
Cost: £7.1 million (release clause)
Wage: £2,000

Promising midfielder Tyler Adams made 37 appearances in all competitions for New York Red Bulls in 2018, registering five assists and one goal. Adams played a major role as New York Red Bulls reach the MLS Cup Playoffs before losing to Atlanta United 3-1 on aggregate.

Adams’ movement and physical attributes are his best asset as he possesses great stamina and 82 pace allowing him to cover lots of ground in 90 minutes. With an 84 potential, managers on Career Mode can sign the teenager for just £7.1 million and on low wages too!

Cameron Carter-Vickers (OVR 69 – POT 84)

Age: 20
Position: CB
Club: Swansea
Country: United States
Best Stats: 68 GK Reflexes, 67 GK Diving, 66 GK Positioning
Cost: N/A
Wage: £19,000

On-loan defender Cameron Carter-Vickers has started just two games for Swansea this season in stark contrast to 2017/18 where he made 34 Championship appearances for Sheffield United and Ipswich. The American centre back will hope for more game time in the second half of the season or may have to seek another loan move away from Spurs.

Carter-Vickers has the potential to reach an 84 overall on FIFA 19 Career Mode but begins with just a 69 OVR making his loan move a good option for Spurs. Other clubs will have to wait a season before trying to sign the 20-year-old who can become a top defender.

Chris Durkin (OVR 67 – POT 84)

Age: 18
Position: CDM
Club: DC United
Country: United States
Best Stats: 74 Stamina, 74 Jumping, 70 Interceptions
Cost: £2.6 million (release clause)
Wage: £1,000

Chris Durkin enjoyed a breakthrough year in the MLS making 23 appearances as DC United qualified for the playoffs. The arrival of Wayne Rooney at DC United saw an upturn in their results, but saw Durkin’s playing time become limited, however the teenager is sure to see more action in the coming seasons.

One for the future on FIFA 19 Career Mode, Durkin can be a bargain buy for Championship clubs with his high potential of 84 and release clause of just £2.6 million. Managers will need to be patient with the American and may want to loan him out, but they can reap the rewards in later seasons.

Joshua Perez (OVR 65 – POT 81)

Age: 20
Position: RW
Club: Los Angeles FC
Country: United States
Best Stats: 84 Balance, 71 Agility, 69 Dribbling
Cost: £2.2 million (release clause)
Wage: £2,000

Los Angeles FC winger Joshua Perez managed just two substitute appearances in the MLS after his move from Fiorentina in August. Having failed to make a first team appearance in Italy, Perez’s decision to ply his trade back in the USA will be justified should he get more game time in 2019.

Perez is a technical player will excellent balance making him difficult to tackle on FIFA 19. Standing at just 5’5” and with 34 strength, Perez can be bullied by defenders but the tricky winger can reach an 81 overall, making his £2.2 million release clause a bargain.

Antonee Robinson (OVR 69 – POT 81)

Age: 21
Position: LB
Club: Wigan
Country: United States
Best Stats: 86 Sprint Speed, 85 Acceleration, 73 Stamina
Cost: N/A
Wage: £20,000

On-loan left back Antonee Robinson made his full international debut in May this year, providing an assist in a 3-0 win over Bolivia. The Everton youngster has made 15 starts for Wigan this season during his current loan spell having impressed at Bolton last season.

Robinson is an exciting young defender on FIFA 19 Career Mode possessing great pace and a potential of 81 overall. Managers will have to wait until his loan at Wigan has finished before trying to sign the 21-year-old but he can play a major part in almost any squad.

Russell Canouse (OVR 72 – POT 80)

Age: 23
Position: CDM
Club: DC United
Country: United States
Best Stats: 77 Strength, 75 Stamina, 75 Short Passing
Cost: £5.9 million (release clause)
Wage: £4,000

Russell Canouse missed the beginning of the MLS season with a knee injury although his return coincided with an upturn in form for DC United. The combative midfielder helped DC United’s playoff push which eventually saw them lose on penalties and ended the season with one goal.

More adept to the defensive side of the game, Canouse is strong physically and can provide an excellent shield in front of the defence. Managers can sign the defensive midfielder for under £6 million with Canouse potentially reaching 80 overall.
