FIFA 19: Ones to Watch (OTW) predictions

With a host of new signings made over the summer, which players will join the already confirmed Ones to Watch on FIFA 19 Ultimate Team?

For the past two editions of FIFA, Ultimate Team (FUT) has produced a set of Ones to Watch (OTW) cards that have proved extremely popular amongst FUT players. OTW cards are players who have changed clubs during the transfer window, and throughout the season any OTW card will adjust and match the rating of any Team of the Week (TOTW) card of the same player.

Looking at FIFA 18, Mohamed Salah’s OTW original card boasted an 85 rating, with this rising to an impressive 93 rating after his appearance in TOTW.

Three OTW cards have already been confirmed for FIFA 19, these are Cristiano Ronaldo following his £99 million switch to Juventus. Joining him are Thomas Lemar and Leon Goretzka who have joined Atletico Madrid and Bayern Munich, respectively. Their ratings (see below) are yet to be finalised before the game’s release on September 28, however.

RealSport looks at which other summer signings could land a Ones to Watch card and take Ultimate Team by storm on FIFA 19.

Thibaut Courtois (OVR 90)

Thibaut Courtois only made the bench for Real Madrid's season opener at home to Getafe, however the Belgian international is set to become the first choice goalkeeper for Los Blancos following his switch from Chelsea.

The 6'6" shot stopper has proven to be one of the best goalkeepers around since rising to prominence during his loan spell at Madrid's rivals Atletico between 2011 and 2014. He has become a reliable figure between the posts and will surely be a favourite among FUT players, with his OVR likely to be pushed up to 90 on FIFA 19.

Arturo Vidal (OVR 87)

Experienced central midfielder Arturo Vidal has been brought in to Barcelona after the departures of Andres Iniesta and Paulinho. Barcelona manager Ernesto Valverde has favoured a 4-4-2 formation during his tenure at the Camp Nou which could see Vidal's play time limited.

If Barcelona decide on using a midfield three, however, Vidal could form a formidable trio along with Sergio Busquets and World Cup runner-up Ivan Rakitic. Don't expect Vidal's rating to change too much on FIFA 19 unless he makes the TOTW, then some lucky FUT players will have a real midfield powerhouse in their side.

Riyad Mahrez (OVR 86)

Tricky Algerian winger Riyad Mahrez has joined Manchester City for the upcoming season after enjoying another excellent season at Leicester City, scoring 12 and creating 11 in the Premier League.

Mahrez will have plenty of competition for places at the Etihad this season but will no doubt hope to add to his league title and PFA Player of the Year award. Mahrez had a base rating of 84 on FIFA 18 which could be increased to 86, making him an excellent addition to many a FUT side on FIFA 19.

Naby Keita (OVR 85)

Naby Keita has finally arrived at Anfield after much deliberation and has enjoyed an excellent start on Merseyside helping the Reds to three wins out of three. Last season the Guinea midfielder contributed six goals and five assists in the Bundesliga for RB Leipzig and Keita has looked particularly impressive behind an electrifying Liverpool attack thus far.

Midfield engine Keita is set to receive a boost to his FIFA 18 rating of 83. Already boasting an 89 dribbling stat, expect Keita to earn increases to his pace and passing stats too which seemed a little low at 73 and 77 respectively last year. If Keita keeps up his early form, don't be surprised to see his overall rise even further.

Malcom (OVR 84)

21-year-old Brazilian winger Malcom is an exciting addition to Barcelona, arriving for a fee of £37 million after seemingly snubbing Roma at the last minute. Malcolm bagged 20 goals during his time at Bordeaux and has earned a reputation for long shots, something that will excite FUT players.

With pace and the ability to cut inside from the right on to his favoured left foot to unleash a long shot, Malcom will be popular among players building a La Liga squad and his Brazilian nationality will be attractive to hybrid squad builders too.

Yerry Mina (OVR 83)

Colombian giant Yerry Mina completed his transfer to Everton after a series of commanding displays at the 2018 World Cup, scoring three times in Russia. Mina is a physical centre half who dominates in the air, making him very useful at both ends of the pitch.

A threat from set-pieces, it was a surprise that Barcelona let the 23-year-old leave on a permanent deal having only signed him eight months earlier. Mina is in for a rating boost on FIFA 19 having caught the eye at the World Cup, with his physical stat potentially rising as high as 90.

Jorginho (OVR 83)

The Italian central midfielder has travelled with manager Maurizio Sarri to Chelsea having impressed during their time at Napoli. The deep lying midfielder contributed two goals and four assists in Serie A last season as Napoli pushed Juventus all the way. Chelsea will hope for a better return at Stamford Bridge, and he has already scored for his new club with a penalty against Huddersfield.

Jorginho's mobility in midfield with 75 pace will attract FUT players, as well as his impressive 84 passing rating. With no outstanding physical attributes, expect Jorginho's price to remain relatively low on FUT despite an expected OVR increase.

Fred (OVR 82)

Another new addition to the Premier League, Fred is a combative central midfield player with the physical attributes to run for 90 minutes. Brazilian international Fred will play in a deeper role to allow star man Paul Pogba more freedom in the Manchester United midfield this season.

FUT fans will notice his 82 pace rating, which is one higher than N'Golo Kante, and they will hope Fred can have the same effect in their team as the energetic Frenchman. Players who favour a two-man midfield will like the ability Fred has to cover ground quickly and close down the opposition.

Aleksandr Golovin (OVR 82)

Aleksandr Golovin was the star of the Russian team at the 2018 World Cup and earned himself a transfer to Monaco amid speculation from many clubs around Europe. Golovin contributed five goals and four assists from midfield for CSKA Moscow last season and also scored a superb free kick against Saudi Arabia in the World Cup.

The versatile Russian is another energetic midfielder with pace, with the bonus of an eye for goal. Expect Golovin to receive a big boost from his 76 OVR on FIFA 18 to upwards of 80 this time around.

Lautaro Martinez (OVR 80)

Not many will have heard of 20-year-old striker Lautaro Martinez, but he has made his move to Inter Milan from Argentine side Racing Club. Career Mode fans will be aware of his frightening potential and Inter will hope he fulfils this on the pitch.

Nicknamed 'The Bull' and for good reason, Martinez boasted 79 pace and 85 strength on his 72 base card last season which will surely see an increase following his move to Italy. It is likely that Martinez will receive a much higher rating on FIFA 19, starting around 80, and certainly one to watch.
