How will upgrades work in FIFA 21's Winter Refresh?

FIFA 21's Winter Refresh is just around the corner.

There's plenty of content coming as part of the promotion, but will upgrades be on the cards?

Winter Refresh Upgrades

The Winter Refresh is one of the standout promos of the FIFA year, and we're expecting some big things as part of the promotion this year.

If you're worried about a lack of upgrades, then don't be.

Every card that features in the promotion will be upgraded in some capacity, with the upgrade dependant on the type of card that each player receives.

The promo is expected to be split into two parts, let's run you through how the upgrades are likely to pan out.

Winter Refresh Squad

As is the case with all the promotions that EA release, there will be a batch of players exclusive to the promotion.

EA will select a squad of players that have moved clubs during the winter transfer window, and hand them a boosted special card for their troubles.

The upgrades for this part of the promo are entirely down to EA's choosing. As the cards aren't reflective of real-life ability, EA can do pretty much whatever they please.

Winter Upgrades

Those receiving upgrades as part of the winter upgrade crop of players will see their new card's ratings dependant on their form in real life.

For example, Adama Traore was upgraded from a 74-rated silver card to a 77-rated gold card as part of last year's winter updates.
