FIFA 21: Seven things we want to see at EA Play

The rescheduled EA Play event will be our first look at FIFA 21, as well as other EA titles including Madden 21 and NHL 21.

With Next Gen consoles PS5 and Xbox Series X arriving later this year too, it is a big year for EA and the FIFA franchise.

Graphics

The graphics improve on each new FIFA game and this year
should be no different.

The Next Gen consoles should take the graphics to new
heights later this year, but unfortunately these will not be on display this
week.

The detail and realism on FIFA these days is excellent,
however they always find a way to step up and we can’t wait to see it.

Gameplay

The FIFA 20 gameplay was the source of much frustration,
especially in online game modes.

Defending deep and narrow made it almost impossible to break down defences as FUT players made the most of custom tactics.

How and if EA try to combat this remains to be seen.

The actual gameplay on FIFA 20, with its new dribbling and
defending, was decent but the strengths and weaknesses were quickly exposed.

Cover Star

Who will front up the new game?

ZIZOU! Will a new legend arrive on FIFA 21 Ultimate Edition?

With a number of editions now available to buy there will likely be several different cover stars for FIFA 21.

Will EA unveil a superstar from previous years, or even a wonderkid? Only time will tell.

Trailer

Another potentially massive reveal, the trailer.

Last years trailer featured the likes of Raheem Sterling, Jadon Sancho and Vinicius Jr, will they continue to use top young stars this time around?

With the PES 2020 featuring the likes of Lionel Messi,
Andres Iniesta and Ronaldinho, EA may try and add some bigger names this year.

Penalties

A swing and a miss for EA.

Last year EA altered the way we take penalties and free kicks with varying degrees of success.

TOP BINS! The fact is you will rarely find the top corner, but not for the want of trying!

FIFA 20 players have got used to the new free kicks; however, the penalties remain an irritant.

In the real world, a penalty is a great chance to score and you
are expected to do so, but on FIFA 20 I would much rather concede a penalty
than let the opposition shoot one on one with the GK!

Career Mode

EA have spent more time on Career Mode recently and FIFA 20
was the best it has been for a while.

More accurate interactions with press and players would be a great improvement along with less repetitive questions.

YAWN! FIFA 20 Career Mode cut scenes were fun... to begin with.

Greater control over your budget, transfer negotiations and season objectives are all areas many Career Mode fans have wanted for some time now.

Finally, a revamp to the youth system feels needed. Give
managers more control with the academy and shape them into the team’s philosophy.

New Game Mode?

Last year saw Volta football arrive and it has received
mixed reviews.

There was obviously initial excitement surrounding the ‘FIFA
Street’ style game mode, although the original game modes quickly overshadowed
it.

Will EA persist with Volta and its storyline, or opt to call it quits and focus elsewhere?
