The V10 R-League is rapidly approaching crunch time, as some teams lock up playoff spots and others are left scrapping for every crucial point.
The purpose-built GRS V10 ’20 produces 900 bhp and tests the best esports drivers to the absolute limit on some of the most amazing tracks the world has to offer.
Week 4 hosted some monumental matches as the biggest names in esports clashed.
These are the best moments from the week's racing, presented by Thrustmaster.
Weigang does the impossible
Mugello may be a glorious venue and a stunning track, but it hasn’t provided much overtaking this season in the V10 R-League. YAS Heat’s Simon Weigang proved you can get past though.
In the team race against Red Bull he got a terrific exit from the final corner and was able to get alongside Nestor Garcia. He then braved it around the outside of San Donato to take the inside line at turn 2 and make the overtake stick.
Baldwin & Siggy go wheel-to-wheel
One of the most mouth-watering clashes in sim racing took place this week, as BMW and McLaren Shadow met head-to-head. The meeting pitted star drivers Kevin Siggy & James Baldwin against each other, and neither was going to yield to the other.
The sparks flew early in the match as the two lined up against each other to start the relay race around Silverstone. Baldwin hanged his McLaren around the outside of Copse and was able to get side-by-side into Maggots-Becketts.
Siggy wasn’t relenting, and the two swept into the ess section only to come together. It was Siggy that was sent into the grass as Baldwin was able to keep his car on the tarmac and keep going.
Do or die for Graham Carroll
Red Bull needed a result against YAS Heat this week, and their Scottish driver Graham Carroll was willing to do everything in his power to make sure they did.
In the team race at Silverstone at the start of the final lap and needing to make a move, Carroll made a daring dive into The Loop on Manuel Biancolilla for second place. Carroll’s move caught Biancolilla completely unaware, and the YAS Heat driver was forced offline and then into another Red Bull car.
He ended up tumbling from second all the way to fifth, giving Red Bull a crucial dead heat in the team race.
Ascari nightmare
Monza has provided plenty of amazing moments for the V10 R-League, but the one place that has consistently challenged drivers is the left-right-left of the Ascari chicane.
At the start of the team race between Redline and R8G Esports, Thomas Petitjean found himself in a strong second place, and looking to put the pressure on leader Jeffrey Rietveld. Then they came to Ascari.
Tucked up behind the rear wing of the lead car, Petitjean lost more downforce than he expected and got out of shape through the first part of the chicane. He slowed to save the spin, only for Michal Smidl in another Redline to collect him and send them both into the barriers.
Last to first for Tonizza
It was chaos at Mugello between Fordzilla and JAESA Suzuki this week. The two Group B teams were desperate for points, and the pressure told.
Leading 1-2-3 off the line, Fordzilla just needed to sort out their positioning and seemingly cruise to an easy point. Instead, chaos reigned.
It was once again a daring move from Giovanni De Salvo in the JAESA Suzuki that was the spark. He tried to make his way between Emre Cihan and Gianmarco Fiduci through San Donato, after dispatching Shaun Arnold in the braking zone.
The Italian caught Cihan on the exit of the first corner and the Fordzilla driver ended up sideways in the wall. Into turn two De Salvo and Fiduci came to blows, spinning out into the gravel trap and collecting Arnold on their way. In the end, it was Maichol Tonizza, who had been at the back of the queue, who ended up leading after the dust settled!
