We finally know when The Witch Queen is coming and what to expect from it

UPDATE:- Destiny 2's The Witch Queen Expansion is going to launch on February 22nd, 2022.

It was a long time coming, but we finally know when we're going to see The Witch Queen launch for Destiny 2 and there's A LOT to look forward to in this next expansion.

Destiny 2 is getting a new Weapon Archetype - The Glaive - alongside a new crafting system and customisable perks. The Light and Darkness saga is continuing and we can't wait to see what The Final Shape brings...

When does The Witch Queen reveal start?

Ahead of Season 15, Bungie is hosting a Destiny 2 Showcase to highlight the upcoming season - the Season of the Lost - and the future of Destiny 2 as a whole. The Witch Queen is the next major expansion coming to Destiny 2 and Bungie has confirmed that they're going to officially reveal this expansion during the Destiny 2 Showcase.

The showcase itself is due to take place at the following times:

  • 09:00 August 24th - PST
  • 12:00 August 24th - EST
  • 17:00 August 24th - BST

We don't know how much we're going to get, but we're hoping for a Cinematic Trailer and a release date at the least.

The Witch Queen was initially slated for a Late 2021 release - However, this was pushed back a number of months ago to Early 2022.

What do we know so far?

At the moment, we don't actually know a whole lot about The Witch Queen Expansion - in the grand scheme of things, anyway.

We know that The Witch Queen is going to be the second part of a four-part narrative being played out in Destiny 2 over the next several years.

Beyond Light started it all off, The Witch Queen will continue it, and then Lightfall is going to follow in 2023. The fourth part of this Destiny 2 Saga is currently unnamed, but fans expect it to signal the return of an ancient enemy... Exciting times.

Joe Blackburn had the following to say way back in February - this is when Bungie delayed The Witch Queen:

" Destiny has so much to offer to so many different types of players, and even more than that, it means something different to each player. It’s complex, intricate, and demanding, and that makes it an awesome challenge to work on...
" ... the conclusion of these releases will also conclude the “Light and Darkness Saga,” the conflict we first introduced with the launch of Destiny many years ago..."
