How Long Is Cyberpunk 2077?

Cyberpunk 2077 will be a long game for sure.

It is an open world RPG, much like The Witcher, so the game will have so much to explore and learn outside of the main story, giving many more hours of playtime in a single playthrough.

Senior Quest Designer Patrick K. Mills did say in a Night City Wire interview that the game will be shorter than The Witcher 3.

"We do know the main story run in Cyberpunk 2077 is slightly shorter than The Witcher 3 because we got a lot of complaints about Witcher 3's main story just being too long."

Patrick also went on to state that many players never made it to the end due to the game being so long.

HowLongToBeat.com has The Witcher 3 listed as taking 51.5 hours to completely just the main story with no focus on anything else, 102 hours for the main story and extra, and 172 hours for a completionist playthrough.

So even if Cyberpunk 2077 is shorter, it will likely still be a 30-40 main story, plus all of the extras.

And there are different classes and gameplay styles which will encourage players to do multiple playthroughs.

There is also the planned DLC and multiplayer that will release over the next couple of years, which will give players plenty of reason to keep going back to the game.

Multiplayer

Cyberpunk 2077 is intended to have a multiplayer aspect to it.

However, this won't be available at launch.

There has been no official confirmation on when multiplayer will be released, but it is expected to be some time in 2021 or early 2022.

This shows that CD Projekt Red are intending on supporting the game for a long time.

Unfortunately, this means it might be a while before we see The Witcher 4, although we suspect it has already been in development for quite some time.

Platforms

Cyberpunk 2077 will be available at launch on:

  • PC via GOG, Epic Games Store, and Steam
  • PlayStation 4
  • Xbox One
  • Google Stadia

What About PS5 & Xbox Series X|S?

CD Projekt Red have confirmed that the game will be coming to both the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

However, this won't be at launch and will instead be released hopefully sometime in 2021.

After 8 years of development, players will soon be able to explore Night City.
After 8 years of development, players will soon be able to explore Night City.

The good news is, due to both consoles' backwards compatibility, Cyberpunk 2077 will be playable on both next gen consoles at launch.

But, players will be using the PS4/Xbox One version of the game, meaning they won't get any of the improved graphics, ray tracing etc.
