This mod improves Cyberpunk 2077 performance

Cyberpunk 2077 is far from a perfect game, with major graphical and performance issues it can be quite the chore to play at times.

I recently encountered a glitch where my performance lowered every time I tweaked settings, even if I was decreasing them.

The performance ended up going from 90fps with Ultra settings and max ray-tracing settings, to under 40fps on low settings with no ray-tracing...how?

And at one point the game would slow to 20fps while taking a phone call, this game is a mess.

But, thankfully the modding community has been hard at work trying to do what CDPR should be doing themselves.

New Mod Improves Performance

The mod, called the Heavy Customization Mod, can be found on NexusMods and drastically improves the performance of the game on older hardware.

It works by "greatly lowers rendering distance, how much is being rendered to the game to substantially lower the load on older CPUs' along with other tweaks to give you the best fps."

According to the modder it can improve by over double on average.

"From (1080p) 21.156 FPS avg (16 fps Min, 36 fps Max) to 50.07 FPS avg (38 fps Min, 70 fps Max) on Ultra, 1600 x 900."

The PC that the mod was tested on consists of,

  • i7-3770 4 Cores 8 Threads @ 3.4Ghz
  • 12GB DDR3 1600Mhz
  • ASUS dual GTX 1060 6GB (461.40 driver) (not overclocked)
  • Windows 10 64 bit
  • 1080p 60hz

The mod needs to be used alongside the Config Overhaul for Cyberpunk 2077 mod.

Cyberpunk 2077 still has a long way to go before it becomes a stable and well-performing game, it is unfortunate it appears that modders are doing the work that CD Projekt Red should be.

But, they are probably a bit busy after being hacked and having the games source code sold for $7 million.
