CD Projekt Red reveals plans for Cyberpunk and Witcher in 2022

Development plans for Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher series are in place for 2022, CD Projekt Red announced today in a financial call.

Here's what we learned about what this year has in store for both iconic game series.

Cyberpunk 2077 and Witcher to receive new content in 2022

In their production plans for the rest of the year, CD Projekt Red announced that a new Cyberpunk 2077 expansion is in development, as well as the next installation to the Witcher series, which is utilizing Unreal Engine 5.

Additionally, the studio announced that it aims to give Cyberpunk 2077 "further support" beyond just the upcoming expansion.

CD Projekt Red also outlined other upcoming production plans that include the next-gen update for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, which is currently delayed until further notice, a launch of a spin-off to GWENT: The Witcher Card Game, as well as continued support to both GWENT: The Witcher Card Game and The Witcher: Monster Slayer.

The studio also confirmed work on a new unannounced project that is based on one of their franchises, The Molasses Flood, as well as conceptual and research work for other unannounced projects, can be seen in their 2021 earnings report.

Cyberpunk 2077 expansion to release in 2023

Following up on their production plans, CD Projekt Red confirmed that Cyberpunk 2077's new expansion is slated for a 2023 release date.

In a Tweet, the official Cyberpunk game stated: "As it was mentioned in @CDPROJEKTRED_IR financial call moments ago, Cyberpunk 2077's upcoming expansion will arrive in 2023. Please stay tuned for more details coming later this year"

This follows what was a less than ideal initial launch for the studios' newest title, one filled with bugs and issues. These problems were eventually worked on in patch 1.5 and beyond, but still linger, and fan response to the title since its rocky launch has been lukewarm.

With a new Cyberpunk 2077 expansion, CD Projekt Red may be able to turn things around for the series in 2023.
